Nah, inside, anything longer than a relatively short arming sword is a huge inconvenience. This is one circumstance where katanas are better than most Euro swords.

A hand-and-a-half sword possibly if you know how to/can "half-sword" effectively in tight quarters. I imagine the technique is a lot like using a rifle with a bayonet

Why dont we have a sword with a gun fixture instead of a gun with a sword?

duh of course a rifle with a bayonet or just a rifle or just a pistol would be way better than a sword, but OP seems set on it being a two handed sword

Roperas are heavier than normal "war" swords, they also were longer and where a "thugish" weapon for the Guapos/small time duelist of the time. They had all kinds of tricks, like the sheath of the sword being pinned with two metals pins so it could be unsheatad in a fluid motion.

Realistically. Make a spear and have a shortsword or machete. Otherwise if it has the be a greatsword assume slashing as something that will be rarely done as opposed the chopping or stabbing and get something light and balanced.

Absolutely, there's nothing scarier than some chubby moron banging against counters and furniture, trying and failing to get his massive frick ass sword through the door frame, screaming like a girl.

    > Be OP
    > Fast asleep at 1am in your one-room apartment in Gary Indiana that reeks of cigarette smoke
    > Suddenly hear a scraping noise at the front door
    > "This is the moment I've been waiting for" he thinks aloud as he leaps into action
    > Reaching behind the headboard, he unsheaths his blade, a fine weapon of authentic stainless steel acquired from a gift shop in the Kingdom of Chicago. The sword is definitely capable of beheading someone, but any spinal damage will do
    > "Squire! To me!" he bellows
    > Connor, the fentanyl-addicted sickly twink he's been training as his personal squire for the last nine days, dutifully crawls out from under the bed, clutching OP's mail and armor in his stick-thin arms, his Pavlovian instincts already anticipating the dope hit he'll be rewarded with for this service
    > OP t-poses dramatically as his squire struggles to lift the heavy breastplate and wrap it around his girth. Precious seconds are lost as Connor accidentally applies the armor upside-down
    > OP makes a mental note to deprive him of his Newport allowance as punishment
    > Suddenly the door bursts open
    > J'Quavious Bernard Wakanda Smith III enters, his blood alcohol content at a stupefying 5.8% Natural Ice
    > brandishing a Hi-Point C9 loaded with a mix of .40, .380 and nail gun rounds, he fires three barely-aimed shots
    > the rounds punch through Connor's frail body and continue on through OP's breastplate
    > OP's heart stops, though this is due to chronic atherosclerosis and unrelated to the gunshot wounds
    > As he lays dying, watching J'Quavious steal his PS3 and prized copy of NHL '08, his final thought is, "I should've stringed the bow..."

No. A great sword is technically a sword, but it functions like a spear and is used like an axe. Most great sword techniques use momentum to make follow-up strikes and movements with the blade. The reason why the lowest part of the blade on great swords is dull is mostly because the great sword is so bad up-close, that wielders need a way to choke up on the blade to even get a chance at close quarters fighting. If you watch great sword duels where one duelist does not use a great sword, they usually beat the great sword by closing the distance and getting close. You’re much better off going with a saber or arming sword, particularly one with a shorter-blade relative to its handle length. Just make sure that it can deliver impactful strikes reliably at a distance without large swings, and that it is small enough to maneuver around your house with. The ideal sword length for home defense is 2-3.5ft IMO.

      Precisely why mine is 2.87ft
Granted, I'd recommend a saber over an arming sword for beginners, but I prefer the latter since it can be more versatile

Greatsword? Probably not unless your house is really spacious. A shorter sword like this Duan Zhanmadao would wield a lot more quickly and dynamically in a small room and stairway.
