>The scenario of the game assumed a plan for the defense of Eastern Poland against a Russian invasion through the Suwalki Gap. Polish Armed Forces were tasked with the defense of the region to the East of the Vistula River for 22 days with the use of all units at the disposal >The fulfilment of a new modernization program for the Polish Army was modelled into the wargame. It means that the new F-35 jet fighters, HIMARS artillery system, (...) modernized Leopard 2A4 brigade, and new Badger IFVs, were at the disposal of the defending side >With the original defense plan for the East, the Polish Armed Forces were unable to hold for the anticipated 22 days. Instead, on day 4 the Russian forces managed to reach the line of the Vistula River and encircle Poland’s capital, Warsaw. On the fifth day the remaining Polish forces left on the eastern bank of the river were virtually obliterated. >A similar scenario with a similar conclusion was conducted during the wargame conducted by Marine Corps War College in 2019. NATO forces were deployed in the same region and received similar tasks to stop the Russian invasion through the Suwalki Gap. As the outcome, after merely 72 hours the Polish Armed Forces received 75% losses and were incapable of conducting any further operations. They were practically drained defending the Suwalki Gap, with the Russian spearhead achieving a major blow.
Back when nobody, not even military experts knew just how much of an incompetent bantustan Russia really is
The hilarious part is slavshit weapons are actually decent, just not when used by Russians. I think there is an argument to be made that Ukrainians militarily carried both the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union.

>slavshit weapons are actually decent, just not when used by chinks >slavshit weapons are actually decent, just not when used by arabs >slavshit weapons are actually decent, just not when used by armenians >slavshit weapons are actually decent, just not when used by slavshit
The Ukies seem to do alright with slavshit weapons. I'm pretty sure they've been using stuff like the S-300 successfully. Against other slavshit weapons but still.
There's nothing wrong with losing in a wargame if you learn from it. There can be something wrong with winning a wargame if you don't take any lessons from it. Always think back to how the IJN did wargames before WW2 and they'd rule-lawyer themselves to win >Well technically x wouldn't have caused a loss in reality. Our superior bushido spirit would have prevailed. So I'll rule this a win.
Take Ukraine and add Petersburg and maybe moscow (though I suspect Moscow was usually just the courtly intrigue capital of the USSR, so worthless for anything but bullying people) and the rest of Russia is functionally irrelevant.
>slavshit weapons are actually decent, just not when used by chinks >slavshit weapons are actually decent, just not when used by arabs >slavshit weapons are actually decent, just not when used by armenians >slavshit weapons are actually decent, just not when used by slavshit
Outside of WW2 I'd put more respect to the Arabs than to the Soviets in terms of combat efficiency. They lost, but their performance varied from somewhat decent to deeply flawed. Russia's has just been deeply flawed all around. Put it simply, if Egypt or Syria or Iraq were Russia all they'd do is just throw inordinate amounts of artillery at the enemy and call it a win
That's only a part of the answer. But there are plenty of reasons to think that this whole thing was a setup to gain popular support for a massive procurement of military equipment. Just a couple of days after this thing leaked, the head of the ruling party said that he happens to be working on a new law that moves military spending out of the constitutional debt limit (Poland - on paper - cannot have a debt that exceeds 55% of GDP). This allowed for the current massive shopping spree, with Polish military buying out everything Americans and Koreans can offer.
thing is these wargames assumed russia had competent leaders and would use their cruise missiles and iskanders to take down air defenses and then commit SEAD, whilst their overwhelming artillery advantage would hammer poland defensive line, followed by tanks and ifv pushing in with anti air protecting them.
Ofc none could predict russia would just shoot down some few radar systems, not commit all of their airforce on opening day and they would just congoline their entire land force causing a traffic jam whilst sending their paratroopers in alone to die in enemy territory holding a airport to eat artillery fire and the planes thats suppose to fly in gets shotdown.
I mean overstating specific weapon systems is one thing but the fact that the entire Russian Army doesn't have a single forklift should have put many question marks on any invasion plans.
Another telling story should have been that Russia did larger scale maneuvers than the West but those were just show events against static targets, meanwhile NATO has always trained force on force.
stfu moron, we have no way of knowing whether China will field jetskis equipped with anti ship cruise missiles to defeat our carriers, and bicycles traveling at the speed of light to transmit their orders

Have they? Polish military rivals Russian one when it comes to corruption and unlike Ukraine, which went through shock therapy after 2014 and managed to get it's shit together, Poland has had no reason to really sort their shit out.
>rivals Russian one when it comes to corruption
lmao
NATO has its own norms too, they don't just let every shithole in. polish army first had to reform before joining in 1999
NATO doesn't let just anyone in. The problem is outdated equipment and not corruption. Now all the old shit was sent over to Ukraine and new replacements are on the way.
This, poolaks are on par with third world African shithole
poolaks even refused generous deal for Leopards when they were offered them almost for free, that's how moronic poolacks are
Never trust poolaks, they're backstabbing scum
>refused generous deal for Leopards when they were offered them almost for free
What russian conspiracy theory is this even referencing? The vatnik lore is too deep.
Blue's supposed to lose in wargames OP, or at least have the fight of their life on their hands. That's how people learn instead of wallowing in complacency.
Honestly for the longest time I didn't really put much effort into thinking about these kind of titles, but like... aren't all wargames supposed to be lost? They exist to highlight any and all sorts of shortcomings in your doctrine, so you're going to put yourself against every single possible odd. Heck, make the enemy know all your positions at any time, give them tactics that directly counter yours, let them perform every single strategy perfectly. It's unfair, but the point is to do your absolute best and see what could be improved.
You can go the opposite and instead of using wargames as an utility to figure out what to improve, use them as a propaganda machine and always win them - that'll get you credibility and make everyone smile all around, but that experience itself is going to be worthless
Too smart of a take for this board.
Wargames are just a fun way for most EU NATO countries to laugh at America when they get an imaginary victory in the real life equivalent of a video game operation
It's also a good way to ask for more gibs >Did you see this parliament member ? >Russia wins in LESS than 60 days ! >Send money pls so we can save the EU and NATO >Thanks !
I mean that's not too unrealistic for high intensity warfare. I think the Bundeswehr is assuming they would be able to offer a maximum of 2 weeks of meaningful resistance in case of war, likely even less.
That's because they haven't accounted for me signing up when shtf. I will singlehandedly fellate every enemy combatant until they surrender. 2 weeks till Moscow, 3 days to Paris.
Times haven't changed, wargames are just exercises to figure out what works and what doesn't in the field. Journalist who read into this shit and write a a shitty article about how
Australia armed forces are better then the United states are morons.
>Anyone remember this? How times have changed
what changed exactly? The controlled leak was a means of gaining support for increased military spending. What's happening now? Even more spending. A psyop is still the same psyop, just less relevant.
I don't know. This war taught me that Poles are as dumb as they are insufferable. Probably not dumb enough to lose to current day Russia but still, they are pretty fricking dumb.
I won't take any slavic military seriously anymore until they individually redeem their honor in battle.
I'm not gonna fall for the >no actually they're really good
Bullshit.
Poland is Russia-tier incompetent until proven otherwise. Same goes for every other one.
Russia embarrassed itself, Ukraine got enough military aid to conquer most countries on earth and is currently pushing them back.
The only impressive thing here is the streak of incompetence by Russia. If China ever wins a war against a foreign power Russia might have a chance to catch up to them.
But that doesn't make Ukraine particularly impressive either and we know the warsaw pact was hot garbage too.
If slavs want to be seen as more than monkeys with guns they're gonna have to do a bit more.
To be fair Poland has been doing everything to dig itself out of the hole they were left in after Warsaw Pact. Consider that only four countries took part in the initial invasion of Iraq - US, UK, Australia and Poland, even if Polish contribution has been mostly a handful of special forces and regulars only arrived for occupation.

i heard the outcome of this simulation was made on purpose, to convince the government to increase military spending even further.
i have no idea if thats true or horseshit, but i think this is absolutely plausible.
thing is these wargames assumed russia had competent leaders and would use their cruise missiles and iskanders to take down air defenses and then commit SEAD, whilst their overwhelming artillery advantage would hammer poland defensive line, followed by tanks and ifv pushing in with anti air protecting them.

I guess the fundamental problem wasn't that we believed those wargames were accurate but that the Russians believed those wargames were accurate.
I hate journalists so much, they do not understand what a wargame is and how what happens inside them rarely reflects a real scenario

Wargames are used to gain funds. When you show that you need new equipment and more men to get the job done, you'll get funds.
Russian military on the other hand uses wargames as part of success propaganda - and it doesn't do them any good.
Nothing changed
If you think it would play out any different today you don't understand the purpose of war games
