If money is no object something in 32 or 25. Although 22lr is likely fine wtf are you getting her a gun for? 380 can be found pretty soft as well.

I'm not getting her a gun. She's a family friend who is disturbed by the growing amount of home invasions in her community. She asked if I knew anything about guns, I don't, thus my post.

The 380 mentioned or 32. But also seriously: reinforced door and shit if you haven't already. Basic physical security and alarms should be the foundation of any defense vs home invasion. Don't spend on active defenses particularly for an untrained somewhat disabled old person without nailing down the passive defense. Reinforced door frame and good bolt, anti-shatter window films or even bars if it's too dangerous, enough to keep someone from just getting inside in literally 30 seconds.

Single action may be hard to wiener with her hands, Also she may forget to wiener it.

i find wienering the hammer to be easier than pulling a double action trigger but i'm not an old lady with arthritis so i don't really know. probably avoid revolvers altogether in favor of the EZ a gun purpose build for old people.

.380 shield EZ. don't get her a revolver unless it's in a small caliber since they can have rough recoil

A Tazer. No troll. Firearms are not a good idea.
But a tazer is a good enough 'surprise' against a would be attacker.

I suggested that to her at first, and pepper spray but she insists that she has watched a lot of police videos and feels those options aren't reliable enough for her peace of mind.

This is wrong. You are a Black person homosexual and should strongly consider killing yourself.

The OP came here asking for advice. And I gave honest advice.
I don't like to judge people by their comments, but I'm not sure you are mature enough to own a firearm.

You want her to be able to make even the uppitiest of uppity Black folk behave themselves.

    Recoil goes .25acp<.32acp<.380
How hard the slide is to rack and how hard the trigger is to pull depends a lot on different guns.
