at what fricking temps do runways melt at? wtf
and no VTOLs are shit, unless we get some new substantially more powerful propulsion technology (compared to any kerosene combustion) runway takeoff is the way to go

bong here, we're getting a heatwave of 40°C/104°F. we, and our tarmac, are not used to these temps

Lmao call me back when it hits 114, 100 is just beach weather.

sounds like you brits used too much tar in you tarmac. I mean, its great for waterproofing but that tar comes to the surface when it gets sorta hot.
      > currently 106 outside and my neighbor's driveway is doing the same thing.

Much more in need of waterproofing than heat protection in the UK.

Most of these runways were built pre 2000, no wonder they're suffering. We still suffer alot from rain

For roadways, there are different binder grades that can be used for different temp ranges. Though bleeding can occur when there is too much binder in the asphalt.

        >too much tar in you tarmac. I mean, its great for waterproofing but that tar comes to the surface when it gets sorta hot.
and in a country known for frequent rain and an incredibly mild climate (considering it's latitude) that was exactly the sensible decision to make.

104? is that all? jesus fricking christ you bongs are weak. Here in TN is gets almost 100 every day before heat index and humidity come into play, 80 at night. I don't care if this is some rare event, toughen up.

        >is that all?

Triple digit temperatures with high humidity is brutal no matter where you’re from, tough guy. I’m not surprised that soggy Bongland is a bit shocked when hit by it. Like people from the desert when they encounter a couple inches of snow and don’t know how to drive in it. -Midwest resident

The difference being our homes are designed to keep heat in and we don't have AC.

Your homes are made out of paper and plywood and have AC.

insulation works both ways, like how a thermos keeps hot things hot and cold things cold
many regions of america have a large range of temperatures which is why we have both heating and cooling, and american houses are typically well insulated

Not him but it is worded weird. I wanted to see warped runways but when I googled it all that came up was tar that connects the runway sections was coming up and it was unsafe to taxi through them.
The clickbait here is they want you to imagine a tarmac made of liquid and bubbling boil

Lots of morons in this thread. The tarmac didn't melt at 35-40c, it melt at a higher temperature. Runways run very hot especially military ones. All the usual RAF sorties for training, patrolling, AWACs for Ukraine, Transport cargos (for Ukraine but also to other countries) etc, means it's a very busy tarmac. A busy tarmac runs very hot

ah yes which is why its constantly melting right? are you fricking moronic bro? if what you said was the case the fricking tarmac would be closed every week
