Basically all guns are gonna get banned in my country soon and I can buy one of these 2, which one should I buy?

556 and 762 are restricted in here, even 44mag is, so I have very limited options.
The shotgun is a pump-action by the way, semi-auto ones are way too expensive in here.

Which has ammo that is more common in your country?
    Buy that one.

      Both are equally common.
I was considering stretching my budget a bit and by a 9mm PCC, but I think it wouldn't have any advantage other than using the same ammo, besides it's like almost double the price, so I gave up on this idea.

If you don't have a .22lr, buy that. You can stack huge amounts of ammo for cheap and it'll last you a long time. Shot placement matters more than caliber.

      I have a pistol and a revolver in 22lr.

Get a rifle in .22lr and spend the rest on ammo for it.
Store it where it'll stay dry.
        Thousands of rounds vs hundreds.
This is important because if they're banning guns, they'll ban ammo too.

get one of those conversion kits you can slide a glawk into to turn it into a carbine, a lever gat is never going to be as practical as a semi. Pump shotty is useful too but I assume your c**t also has some gay magazine restriction?

I am not sure those are legal in here, and I don't have a glock, just a national copy of a 92fs.

12 gauge is the most versatile round. There are shells for every game from ducks to moose

That would be good for hunting, but hunting will probably become illegal next year.
It's great for self defense and all but has close range because only smooth bore are sold in here, so I was considering the 357mag lever action for long range shooting.
There's also a 22WMR rifle I could buy but I think the 22WMR is quite anemic for taking down anything at distance, and the 357mag probably won't be very accurate at distance.
Yes I am very lost about it but I have to buy something before the end of this month.

Rossi .357 lever guns is just an obscenely fun piece.
And useful on torsos our to about 100 meters.

Rossi was a good brand as far as I know.

I feel bad you couldn't atleast get a semi-auto rifle before your nation got cucked

Yeah, I lost my chance of buying a 556 AR-15 knock-off, now they are restricted.
The most powerful rifles I can buy are lever action 357mag and semi-autos in .17hmr and 22WMR.

Is 9mm legal in Brazil now?

Yes for the last 3-4 years, but expect them to become prohibited next year when the old commie takes power.

I'd honestly get the .17hmr or the .22wmr.
If both have the same availability for ammo, I'd get the .22wmr.

          Anonymous

I just checked and the 22WMR rifle is around 30% cheaper than the 357mag lever action.

Do you need to have a license for a gun in a particular caliber in order to buy ammo in that caliber?

Yes, I need to have a license for a gun to buy ammo and I can only buy ammo for that caliber, and in the case of the 357mag lever action it can shoot both 38spl and 357mag, but I can only buy 1 caliber, I have to either settle for 38spl or 357, I can't buy both calibers.

Yeah I fricked up and said .17hmr instead of .22wmr. Sorry it's late. Meant to say the .22wmr for a couple of reasons. For one, it's a heavier bullet, 40gr instead of 17gr. That means it won't be affected by wind nearly as much. Also, since it's a slower bullet, it won't wear on your barrel as fast.

I see, maybe I go for this one instead, I am still not sure what I should buy, all I know is that I should buy something before it's too late.

You said that basically all guns are going to be banned, so how are you going to get ammo? Did you mean that it will be like before Bolsonaro was president, or worse? Are they going to grandfather you in if you already have a restricted gun?

12 gauge is the safer option. .357 and .38 might get swept up in 'handgun caliber bans', whereas 12 gauge always has hunting utility, and worst comes to worst, is the easiest caliber to reload individual shells by hand.

Why would they be better than the 357mag?

As for why they would be better than the .357 mag:
You can carry more ammo with ease.
You can afford more ammo with ease.
        You'll get further accurate range.
        Semi-auto vs lever gun.
Lever guns are cool and all, but they're more fickle than blowback semi-autos.
I know the appeal of "bigger bullet is better," but if you have until the end of the month to get squared away with the last rifle and all the ammo you'll be able to buy for the rest of your life, I think being able to buy as much ammo as possible will be very important. And .22 ammo doesn't take up much space or cost nearly as much as .357 mag.
Personally, I've shot .357 magnums, I own a .44 mag, yet I've killed more with a .22 than anything else.

          Anonymous

I was considering the 357mag because it has way more power than the 22wmr, but you are right, and there's no point in having a harder kicker if it's not accurate, otherwise everyone would be buying shotguns for that.
And paying 30% less in the gun, I can buy a good scope and quite a lot of ammo.

So now I just need to decide between the 22wmr or the 12ga shotgun, but you guys showed me that the lever action isn't that good of a choice.

Unfortunately the T4 / Parafal train parted a long time ago, so now we're limited to the usual stuff.

Assuming Lula will revert most if not all the decrees, a shotgun will be the best option since it did not suffered heavily from the ammo limitation back then and a slug can be as powerful as a 5.56 / 7.62 round, just not as precise.

The Puma .357 Magnum is also a good gun, but be warned that it will be considered a restricted caliber gun when Lula revokes everything and buying ammo for it will be painful because only CBC or a very limited gun shops will be able to sell restricted caliber ammo.

          I see.
The biggest problem is that I don't even know what I really want a long gun for, all I know is that I should buy something before it's too late.

            >The biggest problem is that I don't even know what I really want a long gun for
Then let's go to the basics: What will be the main use for the gun? Sport shooting or home defense?

If it's sport shooting, both of them will be an excellent choice but the .357 Magnum will be better for long range shooting (longer than 12 Gauge mind you). The only downside is that it will be considered a restricted caliber soon, so you might as well buy a reloading press if you don't have one, that may solve the ammo problem on a short period. The 12 gauge, however, will probably be considered a permitted caliber gun as always have been and buying ammo for it will be easier and if you shoot a lot it might be the best choice.

If it's home defense, that will depend where you live. If it's a ranch or you have a big terrain, both of them will be excellent choices too but the .357 Magnum is better by a small margin if you need to take some distant shots. However you will get in a big trouble defending your home with that when it turns into restricted caliber. Again, 12 Gauge will probably be a safer choice.

Nonetheless, the choice is yours but you have to do it NOW!

Well a 12g shotgun, depending on the ammo, has essentially a maximum range of ~50m to a very optimistic 200m
50m for buckshot until the pattern is too damn big to reliably hit the target at all.
200m if you're using slugs and you don't care much about where you hit the target.
Keep in mind, shotguns vary in quality quite a bit and depending on the manufacturer, some have very short lifespans compared to others.
For instance, the cheap turkish shotguns aren't worth shit.
More often than not, they break before they even get through 200 shells.
If you do buy a shotgun, make sure you do a bit of research on the make and model prior to purchase.

Unfortunately we only have CBC (MagTech) and Taurus shotguns for affordable prices in here, but the CBC ones can shoot over several thousand shots no problem, they are common in shooting ranges in here.

Shotguns are pretty cool, I've got a Remington 870, myself. If you think you might want a bit more range or accuracy at range, a .22wmr is probably a lot more potent than most people think it is.

      Thanks bro.

If that's the case, then it seems like he could hold off on the shotgun, since he would still be able to buy that after Lula is back in office and get the .357 now. Then he would be able to buy .38 spl and load it hot.

After the ban I think I could still buy a 12ga, but with 24" barrel instead of a 14" barrel.
Paul Harrell made a video comparing different shotgun sizes and power and it doesn't lose that much power with a 14" barrel.

As much as I hate to admit it because a lever action 357 is a lot of fun, the 12ga pump is probably more practical. Ammunition, at least birdshot is probably going to be cheaper and as long as you can buy (or make) buckshot and slugs you can do a lot with it.

The shotgun will absolutely dominate in terms of both ballistic performance and rate of fire at close range. At longer range the lever action would be more accurate, but with at least decent quality slugs a shotgun can reach out to ~100m or so and it's delivering a lot more pain per trigger pull since a 12ga 1oz slug is far heavier than a 125gr 357 pistol bullet (although granted it's moving much faster).

A semi automatic intermediate caliber rifle is going to outclass both, but between a 357 lever and a 12ga pump I'd go for the pump. At least as long as it's an ok quality pump and not some mystery meat Turkish one. The levergun I'm guessing is a Rossi 92 which I know is ok.

      I see.
The shotgun will be a decent CBC (CBC Military 3.0) and the lever action would be CBC Puma 357, both brand new.
Buying used guns in here is a real hassle, expensive and just not worth it.

I wish I could buy a 762x51 FAL, but it's no longer possible to buy any gun with more than 1650 Joules of energy (except smooth bore shotguns), and in the Brazilian market just there isn't any intermediary caliber that's more powerful than a 10mm and weaker than 556x45mm.

12g, better long term acceptance and support in a society where guns are mostly banned since the richo trap shooters and duck hunters shoot it too in their 15k over/unders. in a total ban situation 12g is going to be way easier to improvise usable loads for and you can do some kinda zany things with it. Get a decent quality 12g pump action IMO.
