Because the maintenance schedules on tanks and jets are fucking horrendous, and everything is crazy expensive especially for planes where you can't legally do most of the maintenance yourself like you can with a car. I wouldn't have a fighter jet or a tank even if I could get one for free on the condition I didn't sell it. The Army pulls the engines out of their M1 Abrams tanks and overhauls them every 6k miles, although they can go as long as 12k miles, but at $3/gallon you'd have already paid $34k-$68k to have driven it that long.

The only armor I'd ever consider owning would be combloc brdm or Cadillac gage commando "free wifi" style.
At least then you can still drive to the local home depot or whatever because it's basically a commercial truck with a bit extra.

Holy shit, I knew WWII tanks were bad with their engines only being rated for 200 hours of use before needing a rebuild, but I figured modern tanks would be closer to modern vehicles rather than older tanks in this regard.

Well, the Abrams has a turbine engine so it has more to do with the service intervals of aircraft rather than land vehicles.

You can if you're an A&P for the specific aircraft that you own

That requires putting in a similar amount of work to becoming a journeyman electrician or plumber though, with about 4 years of combined schooling and apprenticeship.

eh depends on the plane, with surplus mil aircraft, the hardest part would be finding someone to actually train you, barring military service

Imagine getting a shy big tit barely legal girl to milk your coffee in exchange for a place to stay and skip school so she can avoid her bullies that keep making cow jokes at her only for you to just jam it in her and she ends up staying around to milk your coffee in a cow print bikini.

          >The story of Pygmalion appeared earliest in a Hellenistic work, Philostephanus' history of Cyprus, "De Cypro".[5] It is retold in Ovid's Metamorphoses,[6] where the king Pygmalion is made into a sculptor who fell in love with an ivory statue he had crafted with his own hands. In answer to his prayers, the goddess Aphrodite brought it to life and united the couple in marriage.

Nah, we collect fighter planes and tanks too. They're just expensive so the collecting community is a bunch of rich fucks. The smart people turn their "collection" into a business, like a pay-to-visit museum, or a rental range like drivetanks.com.

Anyway, if you follow the big firearms auctions there's always tanks, artillery pieces, etc, being sold. For example:

Tanks are perfectly legal to own in the US if they're road legal (ie headlights, turn signals, seatbelts), but there's no way working jet fighters are legal to own. Even if they took out all the weapons stations, there's no way they'd give something with afterburners to a civilian.

      >Tanks are perfectly legal to own in the US if they're road legal (ie headlights, turn signals, seatbelts)
They're legal without that crap. Now you theoretically couldn't operate one on public roads without those features but the fact that the tracks would destroy the roads would be a far more pressing issue.

Working jet fighters are regularly bought and sold. Private people own them, fly them, take them to air shows. It's a thing just like collecting rare classic cars is a thing.
