Altay T1 begins serial production in 2023 using South Korean powerpacks for its first 100 units of tanks.
Altay T2 begins serial production in 2024 using Turkish-developed Batu powerpacks for subsequent units.
The aim is for the military to initially procure a combined 250 tanks before ultimately procuring as many as 1,000 units in total. A T3 variant is currently in the design phase.

        >Way to go. Turks are conducting free beta testing for the Koreans.
Based on the account of a South Korea poster on another site who worked on these projects, the issue was that the German MTU 883 engine used for earlier K2 tanks was short-stroke whereas the Doosan engine is long-stroke.
This caused issues with the domestic SNT transmission, but I presume those have been fixed since then, likely through the integration testing from the Turkish side for the Altay T1.

Makes sense as long stroke engines tend to make torque at lower RPM (good) but gearing must be designed with the torque curve in mind.

          >beta testing is fine and all, but I dunno why Korea lets turks export this stuff. Should've just exported the K2 and K9 themselves.
Turkey was the first export customer of the K9 Thunder. That procurement and licensing deal was done in May 2000.
Do you know when the next exports were? 2016 to India, then 2017 to Finland and Norway.
Was South Korea using the K9 howitzers in extensive combat the last 2 decades? Nope. Turkey single-handedly made the K9 howitzer a viable weapon by using it, proving its worth, and increasing its fame.

Here's more salt to your wound. The ROK is the one that offered the K9 Thunder to Turkey in May 1999 even before the ROK military adopted it in December 1999.
Turkey had originally planned to license produce the Panzerhaubitze 2000 but were faced with an arms embargo from Germany!

The story of the K2 and Altay directly mirror the story of the K9 and Firtina-II. This one's for the history books. God bless.

              KYS you dumb frick.

Turkey proved the K9 in combat across 2 decades making it a viable platform, which gets others interested in the 2010s.
Turkey made multiple weapons deals with South Korea across the 2000s between howitzer production, technical assistance for the Altay project in its earlier years, and trainer aircraft procurement.

Germany's embargo on Turkey in the late 2000s led to this. Every time the K9 howitzers and soon the Firtina-2 makes a sale, it's marketshare and political leverage taken away from Germany.
Now fastforward to the late 2010s, Germany's embargo once again has caused South Korea and Turkey to use their domestic engines and transmissions for tanks. Every sale they make is marketshare taken away from Germany, and ROK dropping MTU and RENK powerpacks is another loss of revenue and leverage for them.

The K9 self-propelled howtizer's export to Turkey marked a significant milestone for South Korea's defense industry.
I don't think they ever exported a tracked military vehicle before, and it was possibly the largest arms export deal involving a ground vehicle, and one of the largest arms export deals South Korea had signed at that point.
It took until the 2010s for South Korea to gradually become a bigger player in the arms export market, and after the mid 2010s for ground vehicles.

That's what they intend to do. Funniest thing is that Germany not only sanctioned Turkey, they placed sanctions on SOUTH KOREA after they learned that they were helping Turkey with the engines. I have no idea who the frick in German government has such a hate boner for Turkey, Greek and Armenian lobbies aren't that powerful there. Possibly PKK sympathizers trying to influence things or frick, it might even be Russians trying to sabotage Turkey. It's already well-known that Germany is the secret pro-Russian traitor in NATO.

In the US, France and Canada, it's the Greek and Armenian lobby leading the charge. In Germany and Sweden, it's Leftist shits sympathetic to the PKK who run their governments. Both lobbies also have influence in each other's spheres and inside Belgium and Netherlands. They're slowly killing these countries' exports and political leverage.

This project is a failure. Delayed way too much. But if Turks start selling its own tanks and armored vehicles with Turkish engines & transmission, it will be hilarious hindsight for Germany for sanctioning Turkey

        > Delayed way too much. But if Turks start selling its own tanks and armored vehicles with Turkish engines & transmission, it will be hilarious hindsight for Germany for sanctioning Turkey
Note that the DV27K engine from Hyundai Doosan Infracore that powers the first lot of Altay MBTs is also powering the third lot of K2 Black Panther MBTs of South Korea and thereby the first lot of K2 tanks sold to Poland.

Despite being produced domestically by STX Engines under license, South Korea is dumping the MT-883 Ka-500 engine. The planned fourth lot of K2 tanks will additionally dump the HSWL-295 transmission from Germany's RENK in favor of the domestic EST15K from SNT Dynamics. The first lot of Altay tanks is the latter transmission's operational debut, so the ROK is watching closely.

The arms embargoes from Germany rubbed South Korea the wrong way, especially since the original T-155 Firtina used South Korean-made MT-881 Ka-500 licensed from MTU. After Germany started fricking around with Turkey across the 2010s, South Korea began pursuing a policy of localizing all key components so as to not faced undesired licensing restrictions itself. Poland ordering South Korea's K2 tanks and K9 howitzers is the culmination of that. Countries do not want to rely on Germany, Sweden and their ilk. Now even their allies in the EU like Norway are considering procuring K2 tanks.

The Turkish defense industry's export in 2022 was a record $4.4 billion. Export of drones was just 1/4 of that.
The Turkish military budget hovers between $15B and $18B (including weapons procurement). It shall be a record $20B in 2023.

The stated goal for Turkish defense exports in 2023 is $6B. I can easily see it doing over $5B, so $6B isn't too far off from possibility.
Germany's defense export in 2022 was $8.9 billion, and France's as of October 2022 was $7.7 billion according to one source.

Turkish financial policies (anything to do with the government) has been disastrous throughout Erdogan's rule.
Turkey's industrial sector is so far growing so fast that it's outpacing the consequences - which also means it's very desireable to work in it, because you can keep affording a middle-class lifestyle.
Turkey is a regional power held back only by its moronic neo-ottomanist strongman.

The government's economics and financial policies are always designed to keep the industrial sector growing. Most of the industrial and construction sector is run by large family conglomerates, majority of whom are affiliated with the AKP to some extent or another. The top and bottom stratas of society favor Erdogan, while the bums in the middle prefer "anyone else" but tend to never have a singular viable alternative since they're politically divided. That's why they're loud and over-represented on the internet.

The currency decline wasn't started by Erdogan, that started in August 2018 when Trump increased tarrifs on steel imports, then got worse during COVID partly because of global disruptions and partly because of the FUD being pumped by the media. In 2021 up until the Ukraine War starting in February 2022, there were daily and weekly stories on news websites and European TV and YouTube channels about Turkey financially collapsing all while there was practically no coverage of the inflation in parts of Latin America, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Only Indian media covered Sri Lanka's economic and food crisis.

Sri Lanka collapsed while Turkey's currency actually started stabilizing in 2022 (especially since July/August) since FUD can only go so far. Once the currency decline had happened, it became the "new reality" wherein Erdogan actively pursued keeping a depreciated Lira compared to what it was worth before COVID-19. Unlike many countries Turkey controls a large chunk of its supply chain so it still maintains high output and additionally its lower prices beat out competition. 2020 also marked the highest number of tech unicorns Turkey has ever had. The minum wage was also doubled in 2022. The concern was only *currency volatility* as opposed to a *depreciated lira* which was desirable.

Turkey doesn't produce high-tech weapons. Compare a bayraktar to a reaper. What turkey has going for it is that their weapons are cheap and sell to anyone who asks, so they are completely on par with russia honestly

The TB2 isn't even in the same category as a Reaper. You're essentially comparing apples to oranges.
The TB2 is also the low-end of Turkish drones. Anka, Aksungur and Akinci are all higher-end. The Kizilelma is currently under development and that's one of the most high-tech drones in the works out there.

You can brag about the Greek statues you built there.
There are at least 462 graves of Turkish troops buried in South Korea. Nothing more needs to be said.
The military and political relations between South Korea and Turkey speaks for itself.

        >So did the Greeks.
        5,000 Greeks fought in Korea.
15,000 Turks fought in Korea (Fourth highest); 5,445 at any one time, with constant rotations of new troops.

        Turks killed/missing: 966 [1] or 904 [2]
"During the Korean War, the Turkish Brigade was the only military unit that built a school for the Korean orphans."

Pulled straight out of your ass. Is there no limit to you guy's patheticness?

Turks served on the frontlines in Korea. Hence, the large number of dead/missing and POWs. Practically any South Korean veteran who fought in the war will mention Turkish troops as a standout and only have good things to say. Only a few countries have that honor.

There's an actual picture existing. Pic related is actually retreating ROK army troops that the Turks could have wiped out for being mistaken as chicom.

Oh look, a homosexual trying to make a thread about the ALTAY TANK into a thread about GREECE and their insecurities. You love to see it.

As for Libya, warlord Haftar and his cronies won't do shit Turkey doesn't allow them to.
Algeria just signed a gas exploration deal with Turkey a few weeks ago.

Don't worry, Greece will still keep getting its supply of Azerbaijani gas.

Now back to the TOPIC at hand instead of irrelevant Greek insecurities, lmao.

        >As for Libya, warlord Haftar and his cronies won't do shit Turkey doesn't allow them to.
what haftar has to do with the supreme court of tripoli?
        >Algeria just signed a gas exploration deal with Turkey a few weeks ago.
yeah they wanted to drill in offshore libya
        yet another massive failure
        >Bulgaria just signed a gas supply deal with Turkey last week.
        >gas supply
they obtained access to turkey's lng terminals
turkey doesnt even produce enough for its domestic use let alone to export
        >Don't worry, Greece will still keep getting its supply of Azerbaijani gas.
doesnt matter much from 27% in 2021 it went down to 13% thanks to the lng terminals
and it will go down to sub 5% in later 2023 when the two fsru's arrive
        >There are at least 462 graves of Turkish troops buried in South Korea. Nothing more needs to be said.
how in the god's name you managed to lose more than us given that we fought more and were constantly in the front lines?
i guess thats why they decided to built the statues for us in their CAPITAL

        >Failed countries cant produce high-tech weapon systems. They claim they do but they cant
Turkey doesn't produce high-tech weapons. Compare a bayraktar to a reaper. What turkey has going for it is that their weapons are cheap and sell to anyone who asks, so they are completely on par with russia honestly

their anka drone is their reaper tb2 is basicly a cannon fodder
i mean look at the leak of the ukie official they confirmed what we knew that ukraine had lost all of their tb2 by the end of march and they were using old footage purely to boost sales for turkey

While you and everyone else repeating this Vatnik/Pajeet talking-point rely on the statements of a nobody. The Ukrainian Defense Minister—Oleksiy Reznikov—personally stated 50 units of Bayraktar TB2s were deployed between the invasion in late February and June 2022 alone in Ukraine, and more were in production going forward.

Ukraine's defense minister is not a random nobody.
Unlike whoever you're talking about who isn't even an active member of the government or military.
But whatever floats your boat. Baykar made over $1B in exports last year. So all this whining isn't hurting their pocketbook.

Not only are TB2s used for long-range reconnaissance and spotting of targets for artillery/missile strikes in Ukraine, and occasional drones strikes, but they're directly linked to the TRLG-230 which hits whatever the TB2 marks from the air. Some of the strikes credited to the HIMARS by people online are actually TRLG strikes.
