5.7 was a sweet spot in air RB back when I used to play. Jets is a pain before spading, and then mostly missile thunder after you spade, with matches very quickly becoming one-sided depending on which team wins the most engagements at the start of the match. Props are unironically more fun. 2.3 was another sweet spot too actually, especially with the early 109s, they used to seal club hard but I heard they put an end to that.
I think so, especially in sim. WT sim is unironically a great chill version of sim flying. People complaining about missiles tend to have skill or knowledge related issues. L2notch, how and when to use countermeasures, and you'll be fine.
jets peak with korean war kino
there are lots of fags with AIM-9Bs trying to interrupt your sabre versus MiG-15 duel but 9Bs are firecrackers that can be easily dodged if you're not a mouthbreather
anything higher than that is just progressively worse levels of zero IQ missile thunder
>I can't figure out how to notch, can't be bothered to set and use radar controls, can't be bothered to have situational awareness and can't be assed to have my tunnelvisioning interrupted
All of these are you problems. If control volume is an issue for you for radar, use Gameglass or streamdeck or some shit.
They become horrible until you reach the F-4E and then they become fucking awesome, most gameplay mechanics become utterly obsolete because of the ludicrous levels of TWR you're shitting out, and it's basically Ace Combat

I have a different experience, the early jets are pretty fun because most of what you learn from props still applies when you learn to deal with the different characteristics of early jet engines. Then you have this shit zone in the middle where if you can be in a Korean War era jet running into all aspect missiles, or jets that can go Mach 2 when you can’t reach 1, then top tier is… alright. The problem with top tier is that most games are decided in 5 minutes, and losses for one team tend to have a snowballing effect, and when it’s 16 v 16 you can only have so much impact. You end up either winning with almost all of your team alive with 0-2 kills a piece, or losing where your team pretty much evaporated on contact and now there’s 6 guys chasing you. It’s still kinda fun, and being fast paced has pros too, but top tier RB really feels like low tier arcade with no respawns
>too dumb to BVR with sparrows
The trick is to never let a fight devolve into a knife fight. Keep your energy and climb to avoid all aspect shitflingers and be able to dodge missiles without countermeasures. Also, this is one of the first planes you'll encounter with proper BVR, use it to learn about notching, cranking, jinking, radar operation, RWR etc.
you can't really bvr with aim7e, even aim7e2 have a practical range of about 8km, unless the enemy is afk and flies straight for a whole minute while nobody else attacks you or forces you to break lock
I wonder if they'll include later upgrades like the Kurnass and and the EJ Kais. As the bog standard E they're going to be limited in terms of what you can actually fly them against with a realistic chance of winning against a competent pilot. The Kais with AIM-7Ms could do pretty well against a Mirage 2000 and MiGs/Sus with only R-27s.
The F4 had a positive record against it's contemporaries, it just didn't win hard enough and it's BVR ideas were probably a touch too early. Also American pilots weren't trained to use the radar properly, other countries have much better air to air records in the F4.
We don't have its contemporaries apart from the MiG-21 and -19 in DCS anon, and the MiG-21 isn't really a good match for it. It's in an awkward spot where it overmatches -21s and Mirage F-1s but will get stomped on by even the Mirage 2000. If we had the Flogger it'd be better but we don't. I guess with the -17 coming SoonTM as well you could set up a 'nam server though, with F-5s and F-4s on the US side and -21s and -17s on the Viet side.
tbh this is my concern, there's one popular cold war server in DCS and it's gonna be all F4 for months with nobody flying red, need the Mig23 or something to balance it out
in dcs the mirage f1 and f4 will be nice matched enemies
I was not going to get the Phantom, not because I don't think it's cool but I've got enough going on with the F1 and the Strike Eagle, but retarded though it might sound, being able to scrawl nine-lines and lat/longs on the canopy with a grease pencil has me fucking sold. >and also dicks

its fine
the average ECW blufor pilot cant even ratefight in their f5s properly. i look forward to seeing the f4s on launch day try to rate me in a mig19
>ban the AIM-7F
Why? Everybody is already mowing grass, the phantom's radar won't do shit in any case. If they release the F-4J that's a different story...
yeah
Gay unfunny yeahnagger.
yeah
>Phantom
But it's right there
>II
Only one
Pfft okay
>it's right there
it is now. do you know how long it's existed only in our dreams?
First flight was 1958, so... Before that?
You couldn't get one and fly it before, now you will be able to shortly.
What's happening? Can I get a QRD?
the F-4 has graduated from being a fantasy into being a real plane you can fly. well, not quite yet, but within the near future.
He waited years for it to go down and now it's finally happening. He's very excited.
>recently unlocked f4c in war thunder
>it sucks
fuck me
>actually playing a flare-less plane at 10.0 with all aspect missiles
sucks to be your dumb ass I guess
my reasoning is that after suffering through spading it i will enjoy the f-5E and f-8e that much more
The bomb cip is really good, you just unload on ground targets and sparrow anything high up
Are jets fun? Seems the higher I climb the less fun I have.
.t stagnating fun at just under 5.0 props. Ground has completely ceased to be enjoyable.
No. I have top tier jets in all major nations and I'll tell you right now, stick to props
Missile spam takes all the skill out of the game

If you want to play a fun jet game Ace Combat 7 is 14 bucks.
no, nobody flies jets anyway, it's a scam to make you pay for premium.

Take 3 gunpods and set your convergence to 50m and it is stupid fun. Also remember you can use rockets as bootleg flares
God the phantom is so fucking kino. There should be more available on the civilian market than there are

Link because OP didn't include it. The F-4 was my favorite plane when I was young and I'm incredibly hyped.

Navy Phantoms are the best. The only special thing about the E is the gun.
Hopefully they release the F-4J for the proper space age experience.

fuck the f4
when mig23 my floggas

tbh I own the mig21 and haven't touched it, guess it's time to start learning so I can dunk on the newbie F4s
learn it, probably one of the easiest planes to learn
?Y3IZaM
just remember to set radar to standby when starting up and within 5 minutes itll be ready
Thanks for the tips brother
They'd probably ban the AIM-7Fs which will definitely make the F-4 newfrens struggle. If they allow them then it'd be a redfor massacre.
yeah hopefully they have a points AIM7F loadout on their new PG mission, let them have a free AIM-4 tho for the lulz
>ban the AIM-7F
Why? Everybody is already mowing grass, the phantom's radar won't do shit in any case. If they release the F-4J that's a different story...
We've had the MiG-21 forever. It's always been the lack of the Phantom gimping proper cold war setups.
But yeah I agree when the F-4 launches everybody on ECW will be flying it (me included) so for a while there will be a shortage of targets.
ligma is going to make it a paypig wagon
Tbh the one Soviet shitbox I want above all others is the Fencer, with the 31 as a secondary.
>there are still "people" playing war thunder air after they added pilot skills and hacked up the fetus of EC
are still "people" playing war thunder
Grim
are still "people"
IM CRAIGNENT???????
dcs is shit
so are early cold war aircraft in general
