All of Mexico's air space is "protected" by 10 F-5, that's a 60 year old plane

For once Im glad to be inside the US sphere of influence

On the one hand, the F-5, while dated, is also a very good plane, but if 10 of them is all you have that's nothing compared to literally any other country

On the other hand, the good news is nobody will ever care about your country enough to wage a war in which those 10 F-5s will be expected to make a difference

You're speaking of Mexico. Mexico has very few direct neighbors. One are the USA. No matter what country you are, you're going to have less planes. The other neighbor is Guatemala, which air force consists of a few turbo prop planes. So, ten F5 are amply enough.

You actually only have three. One F model (two seater/trainer), and two E models (single seat). The rest are for parts.

In other news, US military contractors training USAF/USN are buying most 2nd hand F-5's with any reasonable flight hours left in the airframe on market.

Relax, you either will be protected by your northern neighbor or get BTFO by it. There's literally no point in any half-assed air force.

Fren when the society collapses, let's take those and build the Tex-Mex empire. We can make spanglish the official linguage.

I heard rumors the 6th gen is already flying and that it's based partly off the YF23.
    I'd like to believe that.
The YF23 had far superior high speed handling than the YF22 did.

anon if anyone decides to attack Mexico we will delete them for you. We are extremely happy with our borders, with Cuba really being the last holdout irritation, but a tolerable one we ignore. So long as we exist no one is invading Canada or Mexico

No one is going to attack except maybe the US for some reason in which case no air force would protect you anyway.

That’s enough to beat around shit hole Central American countries and it’s not like they could compare to a real superpower (or just normal country) anyway so you can optimistically assume their strategy is focused elsewhere.

Just modernize them, with a powerful radar and the ability to sling AMRAAMs it would be on par with the F-16, F/A-18, MiG-29.

America will just assume any sizable attack on Mexico is a front to setup an invasion route to itself.

As an Argentine, I'm very excited about 6th generation fighters, so we can finally replace our Vietnam era fleet of modernized A-4.

Mexico doesn't need fighters at all since its missions are controlling its own populace.

Helos and drones with some fixed wing airlift are optimal.

You will never personally fly one and they're a waste of money for a nation without enemies. Why do thirdies want military toys when they're impoverished and that spending is a waste? Serious question. What is the real point?

Bruh, it was a joke. In Argentina, we only have 6 (!) operational A-4s. The rest were cannibalized or have broken down. So, being realistic, it will take a while until we can get a 6th gen stealth fighter...lul. As you said, probably it's better that way so we don't do something stupid.

    They've retired them recently, IIRC.
