That's not how microwave transmissions work. You'll see each other's transmissions at the horizon

        >radar emissions are microwave transmissions
Then why don't they cook the pilots?

Because the transmitter is in front of the pilot

Because the pilot is not a delicious potato

They do cook people in some cases. In 2018 a high powered Korean STIR-180 was "allegedly" used to paint a poorly armored Japanese P-1 which irradiated the aircraft's control systems and pilot continuously for a while as part of a "broad search" effort. This can be risky mainly due to the possibility of electronic malfunctions, but the pilot could be affected as well if it was concentrated, or perhaps if pulsed too frequently.

you're actually fricking moronic if you think that 1) that poster was serious and 2) you believe that aircraft radars and microwave ovens are at all similar. have a nice day if you're guilty of either offense

              >you believe that aircraft radars and microwave ovens are at all similar
STIR-180 is a naval radar and high powered radars can cause substantial irradiation even at a distance, including internal heating, actually heating deeper in the body than microwaves would cause. The worst damage is to the eye, which is susceptible at a range of frequencies and cooks at the most susceptible poin in the inner eye. RF generally doesn't get bad enough to cause these effects but can with fire control radars in certain conditions, which is part of why Japan started b***hing, but the largest concern was that it'd fry an internal electronic system because of electromagnetic interference and set off an early warning.

Food in a microwave is cooked because the process of absorbing the high frequency microwaves is producing enough heat to cook the food. There is nothing special about what a microwave is doing beyond being fine tuned to produce the right output of bog standard electromagnetic radiation at the right frequency and power output to ensure the heat generated is enough to cook.

Not how radar works. The range at which radar is detectable by radar warning receivers is much further than the radar will deliver a detectable return back to the source. Both planes will detect the each other's radar emissions before they are in missile range. Unless, however, you are dealing with modern AESA radars, which have a low probability of being detected by electronic support measures.

In reality, planes are often guided by another more powerful radar on the ground, on a ship or on a larger plane in the rear and will avoid turning on their own radars until they need them.
