I remember watching that video but can't remember for the life of me what it is called or what happens enough to describe it.

100 Things We Hate About MW2

          t. used to watch this kind of shit all the time

Thanks anon, I would never found it again. Anything you search related to MW2 just pops up with the new gay shit. Activision should have at least given the Modern Warfares a different name.

Honestly I checked out of CoD completely when they completely butchered 2019. I debated getting Cold War because I’m a sucker for 80’s themed shit, but I decided against it. My last CoD before that was BO3 which I mainly just modded the hell out of zombies, now I genuinely don’t care anymore. From what I’ve seen nuW2 is turbo ass anyways, and nothing will top CoD4 for me personally.

For me it's WaW. All the CoDs from that era are deeply imbedded in my soul though.

How do flares work IRL? Is it manual like in video games when you here that a missile is coming?

Acts as a way to pull the targeting system for heat seeking missiles off of your plane, there's usually a warning when you're being targeted, I think it depends on the aircraft but as far as I know every one of them that has flares has a manual release while some have an automatic release as well.

        >there's usually a warning when you're being targeted
If the missile is using passive IR targeting, the only way to know that you're locked and a missile is trying to hit you is seeing it through the wienerpit. Radar illumination will definitely trigger alarms though.

there are missile aproach warning systems out there that track incoming missiles via various ways. they are similar to the radar warning receivers but different.

How do flares work IRL? Is it manual like in video games when you here that a missile is coming?

They are manual but there also are systems that automatically deploy countermeasures. Flares work because older missiles just steer themselves on the locked on IR signature(wavelength and intensity) and the process of imprinting thissignature onto a seeker is what lock-on is meant to achieve. A flare imitates such a signature so it can confuse the missile and get it to lose track. Some missiles just latch onto the hottest object in sight(including the Sun) while others are harder to fool and require special flares and tactics to fool them. Modern missiles usually have an imaging IR seeker instead, which is like a thermographic camera that tracks not just the heat radiation but also the shape and size, making them nigh impossible to defeat via flares.

How are flares deployed? What makes them burn hotter than a jet engine in full afterburn? Is it like some chemical reaction with air?

Some things burn hotter than others. Some things burn so cool that you can easily hold your hand up to the flame, while other mixtures burn so hot that they melt steel, like the widely used thermite. A common hot burning material that is also used to ignite thermite is magnesium, burning at 2000 C or 4000 F, way hotter than jet fuel.

Ideally you want to match the heat signature of your engine as closely as possible, though.
