He's very good at that, but he shows enough of every process to convince me that he's the real deal. If you disagree, go into detail.

Not the same anon, but if dents and dings in thin spun aluminum parts like that shade stretch the metal and it never goes back to perfect pre- dent condition.
He's good but keep in mind that pictures always look better than real life and lighting plays a big role in that.
Notice that he does minor fairing work on the outside of the shade because it's not perfect, but the shots of the inside appear flawless. Part of that is because he's left it sanded (the original was mirror polished), part of it is perfect head on lighting.
If people want to spend that much time on a project like that just to hone their skills and prove they can make one look brand new (-ish) that's fine, but for truly valuable antiques that kind of restoration in never worth what a reasonably used one in original condition is and can actually lessen their value...those lamps are roughly $100-400 and not terribly rare or special as far as useful features or capability, so he didn't lose any collector value but he also didn't create any when you balance out the labor and materials costs...unless someone paid him a couple of grand to take it off their hands.

Sort of like how the magician shows you the inside of his top hat and that there's nothing up his sleeves before he pulls a rabbit out of thin air.

Any discussion of money means you totally miss the point of his channel. Maybe it's all fake. I don't think so, and I don't think it can be proven either way. I agree that the stretched metal disappeared somewhat magically, but after using all his tools he did have to remove metal to level the edge. And when he polishes it on the lathe you can see that it's not perfectly round, which I think indicates that it's the same piece. And how likely is it that you can purchase the exact same item.

If you watch him enough you realize that he's obsessed with perfection, and with making an object as perfect as it can be. I think he did give one thing to a museum, but value does not seem to be a factor in what he chooses to work on.

Maybe it's all fake. A lot of the rust removal channels seem 100% faked, so it's not that I believe every claim. However, PrepHole is full of guys who don't believe anything, from the moon landing to every shooting. Some are trolls for sure, others seem to just not believe anything is what it is claimed to be.

        >Any discussion of money means you totally miss the point of his channel.
Im not familiar with his channel but any "point" that cometely disregards amount of resources involved vs tangible results is either a pretty shallow and meaningless "point" or one that is so self evident that it can be made without any investment in time and resources.

Restoring minimally useful junk on a blank check budget is:

        -Possible
-A good way to kill time if you have all the equipment and resources nothing better to do
-A good way to kill time if you just want to watch someone killing time and also have nothing better to do
-a good way to show off your underutilized skills and tools and resources and how you can afford to waste them
-"inspirational" , "empowering", or any number of other justifications that reek of self aggrandizement and virtue signaling
        >"that massive infusion of skilled labor, time and resources means one less discarded lamp that an endangered tapir can get his balls caught in if it gets discarded, so in the future some child doesn't have to ask "daddy, what was a tapir?" WHY DO YOU HATE THE CHILDREN?

What other "point" might there be to making non- rare trash look brand new by way of massive infusions of time, skills, tools/ shop space and money?

You're kinda going off the deep end, anon. Some people just enjoy doing certain things.

            >"virtue signaling"?

            literally the very next post-

Reducing everything to money makes you either a Black person or a israelite. People fix old things because old things deserve to be fixed. It's a virtue, but you wouldn't understand.

            >People fix old things because old things deserve to be fixed. It's a virtue, but you wouldn't understand.

Not to mention that the entire "point" of your "going off the deep end" comment and feigned confusion is to signal how superior and virtuous you are, SO pure of thought that the ideas expressed baffle you and must be CRAZY and BAD.

            >my people do not know of this thing you call "trash" or "obsolete and nothing special when it was new"; the Elders teach us that all mass produced consumer items and shitty old tools DESERVE to live forever and it is our duty to devote our time and energy to making them new again no matter how much time or money it takes. To do otherwise would displease the ancient ones!!

you're getting mad for all the wrong reasons
why does this lamp even exist?
              >This model is called „Vitalux Type G101“ made by „Osram“. Vitalux lamps always had UV bulps. They were advertised as healthy lamps back in the 30's to get your vitamin D at home.
people have WASTED a significant amount of the valuable resources on some dumb shit attempt to replace the sun

                >you're getting mad
I'm literally not, it's just convenient to say that people with differing opinions are "mad" or otherwise acting on emotion when there's no other way to "win" than virtue signaling.

I know the history of the lamp and it's a cool enough lamp that doesn't have to have a "medical" bulb, but it's of limited usefulness and not even that rare. If people want to waste time "restoring" the worst examples using all manner of specialized tools and machinery that's fine by me. It doesn't make me "mad" at all, the people getting mad are the fanboys who are heavily invested in others seeing it as more than a way to show off and kill time...
                by their own admission because
                >Some people just enjoy doing certain things.
                Hardly a secret or remarkable.
The guy clearly has skills, imagine how cool it would be to see him apply them to a purpose other than " just because".

I go into the sewers and haul out buckets of used toilet paper that I then clean and restore to like new condition. Pic related is the industrial embossing press I use to get the little decorative dot patterns back onto the freshly cleaned and dried paper before re- rolling it onto tubes and shrink wrapping the rolls using plastic I silkscreen myself to replicate the original labeling.
If this sounds stupid and like a pointless use of time and resources, you just don't get it.
