Marlin is about the most practical of all those choices. If it were a 30-30 or .357 then I'd jump on it with out a thought but it doesn't mean you can't find/reload weaker 45-70 for learning or hunting stuff smaller than big game.
i bought a k31 like a month ago and i love it, but 900 seems high. check out simpsonsltd i got mine for like 6 with a perfect bore and great stock. you wont regret a k31.

Why not get an SKS and buy cheap 7.62x39 ammo? Or a .22 rifle? Seems kind of dumb for your first rifle to be expensive as frick to shoot. You need to maximize your shots down range.
Not sure what 30-30 costs in Canada, but I the USA it's about $1.50/round right now. I have 500 rounds in possession but I still don't shoot my 30-30 cause that shit is expensive. Meanwhile, I shoot my .22 rifles weekly.
