A MV-22 Osprey, carrying appoximately 20 U.S. Marines crashed off the coast of Darwin, Australia, local news reported Sunday morning.
The helicopter crashed around 11 a.m. local time on Melville Island while Marines were conducting “Predator Run” drills, which involve 2,500 personnel from the U.S., Australia, Philippines and Timor-Leste, Sky News reported. No Australians were on the helicopter.
What is that, the third Osprey crash this year? Why don’t they just ground them?
The V-22 has 2x more chance of crashing
But it goes 2x faster
So, it spends 50% of the same time airborne as a regular helicopter
Thus the crash rate is the same as a regular helicopter and just as more.
>Thus the crash rate is the same as a regular helicopter
Except it’s not. It’s the lowest of any helicopter in US inventory.
The media just LOVES reporting on it though, because one had the bad luck to crash with a full load of troops in initial testing, and thus garnered a bad reputation.
Holy fuck your helicopters suck.
No, helicopters suck. You are always taking a gamble getting on one and collectively they probably kill more generals and such in shitholes around the world than enemy actions do
I like how billionaires can’t resist helicopters, have a good chuckle whenever one crashes.
Helicopters are convenient. They will be used.
Invent me some cool shit that costs the same or less, and can take off vertically with a lot of people in it consistently without fail. Genuinely can't think of another option, not even a wacky retarded one.
Doesn't change the fact that they are maneaters. The whole reason the V22 doesn't get grounded is that it's safer than a helicopter, but the whole reason it gets so much shit is that, judged as a plane, it's absolutely horrendous.
50% of the time it crashes, every time.
They did after asymmetric power going to the propellers cropped up in recent memory, whole fleet. Might be the same issue.
more american soldiers died in battle and they're using the ol osprey crash bullshit story.
I can't tell if this is serious. Go ahead and tell us more though
I don't know anymore. When I was in Ukraine with the IL, there was a lot of well groomed young Americans. They're usually Marines by their own admission. They looked different to the older Americans from the WOT days and those from other countries. They tended to stick together by joining the same teams.
I was a special retard, so I get funny feelings about things. Could be nothing.
Post pictures
He’s a lying gay, don’t bother.
I rather not, since OPSEC. I have family, and if Russia wins this one, yeah.
You don't have to post pics of yourself. Post pics of other stuff and if anyone else is in it then blur their faces.
All those guys who got vaporized manning Patriots and HIMARs eventually end up in "accidents".
I wonder what the name for this procedure is... you know that Pentagon came up with some clever codename or a word for it.
>US marines killed manning HIMARS
>HIMARS have been destroyed
May we see it, vatnik?
I've often wondered about this. Laundering deaths in Syria, Ukraine, Nigeria or elsewhere through Osprey crashes and other such incidences.
If true it would be hugely immoral during peacetime. I also feel after such a conspiracy to deceive citizens were to come into the daylight that... not very many people would give a shit so it would just keep happening. kinda like snowden's revelations.
fuck my fellow americans they deserve any misfortune befalling them as a result.
Do you have any proof?
Why is it AFSOC flies these things all over the place carrying SOF with no issues, but specifically Marines keep crashing them in training exercises?
It's probably a safe bet that it's because you aren't typically training experienced pilots and crews.
Why would you train with dudes in it?
Just put in sandbags?
are you guys sure those are actual crashes?
Or is it another way to hide Americans dying in Ukraine?
Hey buddy I have a bridge for sale, cheap.
said the osprey crash reporter
>Why is it AFSOC flies these things all over the place carrying SOF with no issues
Because they have much better pilots and probably higher priority for maintenance and the pilots might pay more attention to the maintenance reports because they're just better pilots?
Or the Airforce is better at maintaining aircraft than the marine corps?
because SOF just flies them in forward flight at all times while the marines try to do bullshit like low altitude flight or landing off a runway
OSPREYED
>a helicopter crashes
literally a dog bites man story
It's a tiltrotor, not a helicopter.
Were there any survivors?
>He didn’t fly so good
Why do they even bother with these things
lol ur a rusmutt
???
>No Australians were on the helicopter
Thank God
They didnt have to mention that but the favc they did sparks joy
Why are Ospreys so bloodthirsty for marine blood? this is like the 2nd crash in 2 months
>The Australian Broadcast Corporation (ABC) reported no fatalities, although Sky News cited sources that said there were still unaccounted-for personnel. Multiple Marines were rescued from the crash site with three people injured, ABC reported. Two of the injured Marines are in stable condition, while the third is critical.
Funny how OP left this tidbit out
Op is just lazy
T. Op
They are saying that several (no mention of how many) are unaccounted for. There's a good chance those men are dead.
The Northern Territory News on FB is reporting three dead, five in hospital so far
>3 injured out of 20, only one critical
Wow it's fucking nothing
Probably a retard pilot landing it too rough or something and gave concussions to a few muhreens.
I’m going to baselessly speculate it was a bird strike.
>Osprey struck an osprey
Goddammit, Steven!
>god nobody even died immediately this time, why can't we stop harping on osprey(for-your-life)s for going down so often??
They crash less often than any other helicopter flying. You know this already, you just want to be a shit.
You pull that out of your ass?
The bell 206 jet ranger had the least amount of deaths per flight hour than ANY OTHER FULL PRODUCTION AIRCRAFT for over 30 years. That was proudly displayed by the company for quite sometime.
Engine failures in the 206 were literally a nothingburger. It was easy mode auto rotation despite the 206 spending most of its life at low altitude.
3 confirmed dead
https://www.reuters.com/world/aircraft-with-us-military-personnel-crashes-australia-defence-ministry-2023-08-27/
>3 confirmed dead
MV-22 is well fed now.
Who knows how many more will die in the hospital or during surgeries.
>Wow it's fucking nothing
Just 3 people dead. Fucking nothing.
What a shocker. It crashes all the time, and it's not due to the pilots' fault. There are massive amounts of mechanical faults. Just read crash reports to see how unsafe they truly are. If I were in the Marines, I would not step foot on one of those things.
kek... was just about to post this.
Imagine being a Muhreen and you refuse to ride one of these flying coffins while you're peer pressured to do so
>alright Muhreen just swim back to the boat
it's safer to be on an osprey than a blackhawk you retard
>it's safer to be on an osprey than a blackhawk you retard
Not it's not.
>all but 1 marine vehicle is above the mean
must be the chopper's fault
>must be the chopper's fault
cope
Have these things now killed as many us soldiers as a minor conflict wtf
Damn and this comes barely 48 hours after the USMC F-18 crashed in California. RIP.
Disregard, no casualties for the MV-22.
>Three dead already
American technology ladies and gentlemen
FEED ME MARINES
I'm sure as they were burning to death they were comforted by the fact that, in the grand scheme of things, their deaths were actually statistically unlikely
the russians were right to invest on counter rotating helis after the v12
>has sprey in the name
>crashes
pottery
All I have to say is whenever PrepHole talks about anything specific to the military things turn into a contest of contrarianism and stupidity.
No it doesn't. You're a poopface.
>Osprey crashes killing 20 Marines
In other news the Sun rose this morning
>killing 20 Marines
Did you not even read the thread bro
Mmmm muhrens
Maybe helicopter is the problem. Go gyrocopter.
the missile really makes it 10/10
honestly not a terrible idea considering how fucked the terrain is in a third of china
god look at those "homes" in the background. grim.
>god look at those "homes" in the background. grim.
I've lived in a Chinese high-rise apartment, they can be pretty comfy if you get a modern build in a complex that's well maintained.
https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2023/aug/27/us-military-aircraft-crashes-off-nt-coast-during-training-excercise
Latest reports say the crashed involved 23 US marines, and at least 3 are confirmed dead.

5 more in critical condition.
As a helicopter pilot, I've always said that any helicopter is just thousands moving parts plotting to kill you. Oddly enough, the Osprey has a lower casualty rate than even the Blackhawks.
>Get in the tiltrotor crayon eater. Helicopters crash all the time, don't worry about it!
Man, a lot of money must have went into these things.
The "problem" with the V-22 is pilot training. A trained helicopter pilot can fly it but it has certain behaviors in certain conditions such pilots won’t know how to handle. Ie, when landing and there’s a gust of wind what you do in a helicopter is different than in an Osprey and so an inexperienced Osprey pilot might crash it. Trained V-22 pilots have no issues and can pilot them as safely as any chopper. Why haven’t the Marines dealt with the training issue? Who knows, maybe crashes are so uncommon to begin with they often let heli pilots get into Ospreys.
Why do people love to hate on the Osprey? Yeah it's not as safe as a commercial jet but for military applications it has a perfectly normal record. Also I just love it. The design is sexo and tilt rotors are just soulful in general
What is the advantage of these over just using a regular helicopter or a regular plane?
>It can do both!
How often is that actually required? Surely it can not be better at being a helicopter/plane than the best purpose built helicopter/plane? Why not just pick the best one for the purpose?
Faster than a helicopter, can land on a s8 gas point without a runway
Is the speed factor really that much better? Is it only 2x as fast or is it like 5x as fast as a regular helicopter?
> Is the speed factor really that much
Yes.
It’s also got significantly longer range than a helicopter
i hate amerimutts
