A Hawker Hurricane Mk IV, OO-HUR, crashed during an international aviation day in Cheb, Czech Republic.
The pilot was flying a display when the aircraft crashed outside the airport on the border of a field and a house in the city of Cheb - Podhrady. The pilot died in the accident. One woman on the ground was injured.
Air shows are fricking moronic. You don’t see people dragging Model Ts out of museums and drifting them at car shows and hitting the crowd. Why are they not grandma flying these when they take them up?
Planes are meant to fly. Keeping them on a display platform is like taxidermy.
Aren't they? Maybe just in the US.
>According to witnesses the plane suddenly lost altitude while turning and disappeared from sight.
Sounds like a pilot/airplane malfunction. Cars break down too, and vaxxies pass out. What are ya gonna do?
Surprise surprise the 80 year old airframe had a malfunction and now another relic is lost forever. I’ll say it again, airshows are moronic
There are 12 airworthy Hurricanes left in the world, well, 11 now.
And more as spare parts. It's fine to keep them flying, they were made to fly.
I’m gonna take my all matching stocked artillery Luger to a carbine course, it’s fine because replacement parts exist
Maybe in the future all those old plane will be flown by computer. Eliminate pilot error. Who knows?
i take my all matching early italian converted garand shooting regularly. seethe.
Just make a mock-up and keep the schematics and manuals around if you just want the thing to sit there and do nothing but look pretty forever.
There's nothing wrong with the plane. It's just moron pilots.
>One of the most experienced czech pilot and instructor Petr Pačes died today in Hawker Hurricane Mk.IV. in marking of ww2 czechoslovak ace Karel Kuttelwascher plane after crash in Cheb Airshow (CZ).
He was a Boeing 737 captain, and flying instructor.
Airliner pilots have a habit of getting too lax when it comes to kinetic flying skills.
>You don’t see people dragging Model Ts out of museums and drifting them at car shows
You do
There's just no way to properly show off things like plabes in stationary exhibits. You lose so much of their character. Now if there's only a few of a type in existence then they should be preserved and kept safe. Otherwise you run the risk of losing them all.
And as time and wear take their toll, then even usable examples should be considered for safer storage. Planes are always a risk to fly, but it's one many have accepted. Then and now.
They do race classics because why not
But I semi agree, I'd be in favour of not doing aerobatics with a lot of these old airframes and settle for fast passes and flybys in order to keep them in the air and minimise the chance of them having an fault in a situation they can't recover from. I'd like to see a ship of theseus type rebuild program where modern airframes are built around some specific old components legally classing the aircraft as a rebuilt original rather than a replica, and use those for crowd pleasing air-shows. Grounding old planes outright though wouldn't be right, there's plenty static already

also the woman had minor injuries, but the plane hit a house.

RIP Hurricane, but planes were meant to fly. I was extremely upset when Nine O Nine crashed a few years ago but then I remember the joy that she brought me when Wings of Freedom would come to my local airfield. I’m glad she was flying for as long as she was and I miss her, but she was one of the reasons I joined the military. RIP B-17 “Nine O Nine”, I wish I had pictures of you and I saved on my phone but they’re all at my parents place. You’re sorely missed and I thank you for all the joy you brought to me as a child.
Big F for the pilot but it's easy enought to make another one if you've got the money.
She was last one of her kind. Any other will be different version, or a replica.
>it's easy enought to make another one if you've got the money
are you still talking about the pilot?
Been there, I have seen him fly to the back of the airfield and then he disappeared under the hill. After that I stopped hearing the engine. Big F to both the pilot and the plane.
i've got to agree with that anon, airshows are fricking moronic, it's gonna reach a point that the last plane will be destroyed and only then people will have notice how moronic and stupid this entire concept is, but oh well it will be too late to save the fricking relics
Shut the frick up nerd. Machines crave action.
>be Hawker Hurricane
>get cucked by the Spitfire
>get cucked by the Mustang
She did a mighty fine job over Britain and Malta. Don't sully her legacy.
