Russia has been using D-1 since 2022, M114A1 is not that bad

four harasement fire, maybe? On less intense frontline sections?

if 155mm shells are scarce why would you allocate them to this grandpa howitzer instead of a pzh2000, archer or m777

          Anonymous

Because you dont burn SPGs on defensive actions when you can't repair/replace them. Better to have a bunch of old grandpa systems you can use defensively and then the enemy can't gain anything from if they do capture/destroy them.
If Russia captures an M777/Pzh2000, even if they can't replicate them, its still insight into how they work. It's why you scuttle equipment.

These guns will fire the old M107 shells they found. You aren't wasting tube life of your gucci kit firing those things if something else better is available.

they might have even worse situation for 152mm - so going for some diversification might be useful
      - as Russians say:

Why not? Greece clears out old shit they don't need, Ukraine has more tubes. Can never have too many guns against the Russians.

        >Greece clears out old shit they don't need
Greece is performing some sort of Kansas City Shuffle where some stuff is coming from USA or was paid for by them but USA is paying for it out of budget earmarked and approved for NATO because it's going to a NATO member.

This might be part of that, or cover for it, or just kind of part of the process.

If Ukes are still under the impression they need spgs, those would be great stuck to mt-lbs.
Or if even the mt-lb couldn't handle it, t-55 hulls.

It's 14km vs 18km given the kind of ammunition they're going to be using over there. Still a perfectly capable gun

      Anonymous

it's a perfectly capable gun. It would free SPGs for more important roles since it could be used for stuff like defensive positions and etc.
You can never complain about having too many guns, and as I said it helps with proper allocation.

its another 155mm slinger, pretty self explanatory purpose wise, not everything can be modern SPGs or M777s

It outranges a D-30 slightly, they are using it for the same role.

140.000 of these artillery pieces were built.

I would not be surprised if there are over 10 thousand of them still around in warehouses.

I guess they can still be useful to some degree for defensive actions and as a stop gap for the lack of 155mm

      >That rocket that almost killed greek PM was the trigger wasn't it
It didn't "almost kill" him, it was pretty bad luck to even be in the same suburb at the time but it was pretty reckless targeting the city while he was in it.

Could be NATO/EU sending a message, could be just that they think it's gone on long enough and it's time to turn up the heat to end it.

Maybe some NATO meeting decided that Russia had been sufficiently disarmed that future conflicts weren't going to be an existential challenge and Ukraine could now mop up what's left and that would be enough. In this scenario, they increase weapon supply, threaten troops and maybe sprinkle a few here and there to make targeting infrastructure extra spicy for the Russians and wait for it to run its course.

To be fair some of the Ukrainian interest rates are corrective caused by the soldiers basically being paid european wages directly in Euro transfers, as are some of Russians low interest indicative of throwing Russians limited money at the problem.

If I had to guess, its probably a mistranslation, and its referring to the M67 RR. When I was in Korea five years ago for the Korean-Marine Exchange Program their guys used em, so it makes sense that the Hellenic armed forces might have a stockpile too, since its a legacy US/NATO weapon. Shit fricks in Wargame Red Dragon.
