I saw this nice Mosin at a shop, but prices rose and I can't currently afford it without selling my Winchester 94. I plan on using either as a hunting rifle and a sniper riifle/range toy.
Is the quick action of a lever rifle better or is the stopping power of a nagant round really worth selling the winchester?
Mosins are shit. They were only worth buying when they were 100 bucks and you could get a spam can of 440 rounds for another 100 bucks. Buy a modern production rifle if you want a shooter.
t. has a matching serial Mosin that I got at one of Big 5's last 100 dollar sales, though I'm sad it's not a hex receiver
It's 475 but do you think I can haggle it down to 400?
If you want to shoot your purchase a hefty amount, buy a Savage, Ruger, or whatever modern bolt action catches your interest, which also opens up your choices of caliber to things that are better suited to whatever you want to hunt. The sole reason to buy a Mosin at modern prices is if you really appreciate the historical nature of it, which clearly isn't a big draw for you since you are more concerned about the caliber.
I do appreciate the historical draw in all honesty. An old man gave me 32 7.62x54r rounds for like 20 bucks once.
True I might just sell the AR7 instead
>True I might just sell the AR7 instead
You'll never get enough selling an AR7 to make up the difference.
Honestly yeah
Im not buying the mosin, especially for anything more than 300, thanks /k/
If you sell that winchester you are going to have a frickload of buyers remorse when you actually get to the range to fire the garbage rod.
Honestly I was getting really hesitant but Im pretty convinced now an 1894 isnt worth selling.
I can always just buy another .22 anyway
Guess I can have my /k/ake and eat it too.
If you have to sell an ar7 for 100-150 bucks you cant afford to shoot that mosin even if you buy it.
Sell it take that 450 and buy 30-30
Good choice. I can hardly think of a handier rifle than the '94 and at iron sight ranges the 7,62x54r doesn't play out it's power advantages - especially on deer.
>They were only worth buying when they were 100 bucks and you could get a spam can of 440 rounds for another 100 bucks.
This unfortunately, fun guns but absolutely not worth modern prices.
Someday I'll find a chink carbine though.
Keep the Winchester.
>I saw this nice Mosin at a shop
YOU MUST RESCUE SOUL OF FINEST CREATION OF SERGEI MOSIN FROM FILTHY BOOMER CAPITALIST FUDD SPORTERIZING SCUMFRICK
>the stopping power of a nagant round really worth selling the winchester
7.62X54R CARTRIDGE HAS KILLED TSARIST, FASCIST, TERRORIST AND CAPITALIST ALIKE. YOU MUST PURCHASE.
>7.62X54R CARTRIDGE HAS KILLED TSARIST, FASCIST, TERRORIST AND CAPITALIST ALIKE. YOU MUST PURCHASE.
and it's killed more communists than all of those four combined 😀
I wish /k/ could come up with something original again, instead it's just morons talling about fricking deer or lame Ivan wannabe posts
Mosin is the toughest bolt action design ever made.
I have both, I prefer the Mosin but wouldn't sell the Winchester 94 either
The winchester fuddy-fuddy is a better machined and put together rifle than any mosin.
Its like comparing a starrett depth micrometer to a wooden ruler.
Sure both measure, but one is exponentially better.
Mosins are trashy, you might still want one for the memes and historical significance but don't sell anything to buy one.
My dad has a rolling block in 7.62x54R - it's both of our favorite, and has killed many a stag, moose and black bear. Great round.
I should also add, while 7.62x54R is a great round, Mosins really are garbage rods. The absolute bottom of the barrel as far as bolt action battle rifles go. I'd take a Carcano or late war scarcity Arisaka over a Mosin Nagant. Any fricking day. Unless the Mosin priced at 1990's prices, and the ammo equally cheap.
Those are two very different guns, not really comparable to be honest.
Gimme the details on your Winchester 94.
In my humble opinion, the 94 would be a more handy, useful "general purpose" type rifle. If you want the novelty of shooting 19th century military rifles, wait til you save up some money, don't sacrifice a very practical gun that's also fun in its own right.
Let's also not forget that leverguns are just fricking fun to shoot. At least most folks seem to REALLY enjoy them in comparison to bolt action rifles (though personally I favor the bolts).
Mosins are kinda bad. Because the entire system relies on this long guiderail and rotating coller piece you end up with a gummy action and shit getting caught in the coller. Some models are from the late 1800s so they're VERY old and often worn out. The sights are also calibrated with the bayonet on so if you don't have the bayonet (which already sucks because it's a cool sword bayonet) then the accuracy is going to suck.
