PA isn't going to get into the fray with Elcan and Trijicon, they know no one will be buying their pricier optics when people would rather spend that much on brand names that has recognition of military use.

2 reasons. A 0x red dot has limited application at distances you would want to use a rifle vs shotgun. CQB, shotgun wins all day everyday. Fight me.
But as much as I love my brick of a compm4, it sucks outside of shooting paper inside 100yds.
5x is a very good magnification for 100-300. And a prism is good for people with astigmatism.

      Anonymous

      >CQB, shotgun wins all day everyday.
That depends on how you define CQB. There's a massive difference between civilian engagements with individuals/small groups of people exchanging shots at 25 yards or less where cover seldom comes into play and where putting people down with a quick decisive shot is the primary concern, and the military definition which covers firefights between large groups of people out to 100 meters where a large portion of your ammo will go to suppressing fire.

Do you not realize that’s an effect of the lower magnification? If you turn down the magnification on an LPVO from 4x to 3x, your FOV also increases.

You should be looking at the relative FoV. Multiply FoV by magnification. 4x ACOG = 36.8*4. Primary Arms 3x Microprism = 38*3.

ACOG comes ahead by 30%. If the TA31 was a 3x instead of a 4x, it would have a considerably wider FoV than the PA 3x.

in a world where 1 moa ARs aren't very hard to accomplish, a 1-moa adjustment is trash. every self-respecting company has 1/2-moa adjustments on their magnified optics.

Because accuracy isn't max deviation from factor X + max deviation from factor Y + etc., and having your zero within 1/2 MOA of where your bullet is hitting rather than within 1/4 MOA is effectively meaningless.

                >effectively meaningless.

weird how all of a sudden its acceptable to have 1-moa clicks ever since this 5x prism got announced and all the vortex users crawled out of their holes to shill the spitfire.

Anon, only optics I own are made by Primary Arms. An additional 1/4 MOA difference in your zero vs the point of impact of your bullets is absolutely meaningless given how that kind of optic is meant to be used.

ok well so far the only thing the spitfire has going for it is the rmr plate on the 5x and thats it. the stock mount is trash btw and the hex screws will strip instantly.

my point is that regardless of your opinions on MOA clicks, the PA prism has finer ones and generally speaking it is better on paper than the spitfire at ever level of magnification. the ONLY reason to go with a spitfire is to get the rmr mount.

speaking of magnified prisms on a P90, help me better understand eye relief: would you only have a full picture if your eyes were the ~3 inches or less from the optic? farther away, say, on a PS90 with extended buttstock, at like twice that, like 7" would the picture be shrunk with a fat black ring to the edge of the peep?

there is a range of eye relief where you get the full image, but how wide this range is varies wildly by scope.

part of the trouble with the elcan is making something hold zero while flipping. russian copies have terrible poi shift

        Anonymous

that's not actually a problem with the elcan, though it has been repeated enough that low-information people nonetheless believe it. you zero it with the 4x lens, and since you only use the 1x for close range shit it doesn't really matter if it's an inch off. and even then it turned out that the only reason there was a POI shift at all on the very first models was a lack of detents at the ends of the lever, so the lever could get bumped out of position leaving the internal lenses slightly misaligned. elcan added detents after the first year's production and even that minor niggle went away.

Funny you mention that. I originally got one of those but lower magnification for my P90. I sighted it in and when I looked through it with both eyes open I had complete double vision and it was disorienting to look through. Like the PA microprism could only handle a limited amount of height over bore before it completely shit itself and was worthless as an optic. I returned it and put my old 4x Acog on it and the height over bore does not negatively affect the Acog whatsoever. Could see perfectly clear with both eyes open.

Just letting you know that the PA microprisms are essentially worthless if you're doing a large amount of height over bore.
