50 bmg pistol

I bought this, tell me things I can do with it. Its 16.5 pounds, 16.5 inch barrel, 50bmg, single shot bolt action. I so far have a bipod, some ammo, a match saver, and a 16x scope for it.

Yea thats the plan, I thought 1500 bucks for a 50bmg was a steal. I'm gonna try to put a stock on it since it has a 16.5 inch barrel on it but I'm not sure where to start. It uses an ar15 grip.

No, you fricking idiot, it's not classified with the atf as a pistol it's just marketed as one cuz it doesnt have a stock. Also 50bmg pistols already exist and they DO have under 16 inch barrels. So stop talking shit, homosexual.

Yeah, keep telling your bullshit, I'm sure the ATF cares more about your story than extending their overreach

You literally are a moron. 50bmg pistols literally exist. This is also not classified as a pistol. It's a rifle, when you fill out your 4473 it's a rifle.

Most the things ATF calls AP isn't actually AP, just wierd bullshit.
Technically pistol rounds made of solider brass/copper like the lehigh ones fall under ths definition, just the ATF hasn't gone after anyone for it, yet.

They are solid brass or gilding metal or something, no lead.
Im pretty sure the law talking about AP ammo just mentions of the non lead jacket is over a certain thickness

                Non-AP doesn't require a lead core.
Only brass (copper and zinc), bronze (copper and tin) and beryllium copper are prohibited

Brass and bronze are typically harder than unalloyed copper.

                >Most the things ATF calls AP isn't actually AP, just wierd bullshit.
The definition for AP is explicitly defined in law by the GCA 1968. Since Congress actually defined it by materials/jacket because they're ignorant it doesn't necessarily mean it's "AP" in terms of actual functionality.
                >Technically pistol rounds made of solider brass/copper like the lehigh ones fall under ths definition, just the ATF hasn't gone after anyone for it, yet.
                Here's the AP definition:
                >(i) a projectile or projectile core which may be used in a handgun and which is constructed entirely (excluding the presence of traces of other substances) from one or a combination of tungsten alloys, steel, iron, brass, bronze, beryllium copper, or depleted uranium; or
                >(ii) a full jacketed projectile larger than .22 caliber designed and intended for use in a handgun and whose jacket has a weight of more than 25 percent of the total weight of the projectile.
"May be used in a handgun" unfortunately includes everything including 50bmg since as this thread points out they exist. Copper is completely fine though, solid or whatever. Not on the list. Part 2 uses "intended" instead of "may" so may not apply to rifle ammo, and at any rate keeping jacket weight below 25% is easy (and again doesn't apply to solids anyway since those have no jackets).

Since the material list is explicit interestingly there may be openings to make real AP ammo that legally is not AP using new metals and advanced ceramics that Congress simply didn't contemplate at all in the 1960s.

Is there actually any case of someone breaking their wrist from a pistol recoiling in modern history?

            Anonymous

No, it's a fudd lore meme. You've seen the videos of small women shooting 500 magnum handguns and falling back on their ass. Human bones and musculature dont work that way, you're not made of wood. No recoil is gonna "snap" anything. It's the same as fudds saying a .223 will "ruin the meat and blow the damn deer apart" meanwhile they hunt with a 300 win mag. Its moron exposition that only makes the hobby of guns less approachable and inundated by idiots.

how does this not shatter your wrists?

Wrists are a joint, "breaking" your wrist is almost never a bone, but tearing a tendon/multiple tendons in the joint

                Anonymous

Or possibly the ligaments. The ligaments are the worst because they don't heal like bone and tendons.

          >how does this not shatter your wrists?
The recoil isn't in line with your wrist. The idea that some monster pistol would "break your wrist" is just a joke. What actually happens when someone fires a pistol that has too much recoil for them is they lose their grip on the gun, perhaps smacking themselves in the face with it.

I used to own a Thompson Encore in .450 Nitro Express--pistol, mind you. Not rifle. One time a friend shot it, he lost his grip, the gun came back and smacked him in the face, the scope smashed his glasses and gave him a nasty cut on his forehead that looked like a 3rd eyebrow and took 14 stitches to close. But there was nothing whatsoever wrong with his hands or fingers.

Assuming you were shooting a 650gr projectile, and assuming it was only going ~2500 fps with the shorter barrel, it would generate 87.82 ft-lbs free recoil energy and a recoil velocity of 18.51 ft/sec
A mossberg shockwave shooting 1oz high brass slugs would have 52.86 ft-lbs free recoil energy, and a recoil velocity of 23.81 ft/sec

Also this gun weighs 16 pounds naked. With accessories you're looking at around 20 lbs and with a gigantic muzzle brake.

Ok if it weighed 20lbs it would have a recoil energy of 71.61 Ft/lbs
