Do I sell my 45 pistol and Ruger Wrangler 22LR, both of which I never shoot anymore, to afford the S&W 5.7?

then what? can you hork out 40+CPR to shoot that?

I already have a lifetime supply of 22 bullets and primers and the cartridge is not very powder-intense. My ammo cost will be basically nothing.

Look at .221 fireball. You likely won't find an autoloader chambered in it but that's literally mini 5.56 (actually mini .222 since that's its parent case).

You do know the cases have a coating and are straight walled, right? Not that you can't reload it, just that I've heard it can be a PITA.

It's mini .223. .222 gets listed as the parent case, but it's actually pretty different. .221 has the same neck and shoulder as the .223, the only dimensional difference is the length.

            Anonymous

I only say that as that's what's claimed the parent case is when I look it up. I know a guy who forms them out of .223 brass. Maybe even 5.56.

              Anonymous

Yeah, I guess you could call them siblings from the same parent. They're much closer to each other than to the .222.

Also you could tell it's a bobcat if you had eyes anon. It's fair game and it has a season; it's not a housecat. Nice fur, very soft.

Sounds like you need to embrace .22 TCM. It’s 5.7 without all the bullshit that 5.7 gets away with only because “muh NATO video game round.”

I don't even own a .221 or 5.7; I just hang out with a guy that loads .221 for a bolt action handgun for game somewhere around the larger end of small game to medium game. Think groundhogs and raccoon up to around fox. Depending on what OP wants, I thought it might be a good option so I mentioned it.

            Literally who?
A quick search tell me that this is a proprietary cartridge (lol) which only exists in Rock Island Armory 1911s

It's impressive that the Belgians can't make a better pdw cartridge than flips lol

Why a shitty pistol round that's more comparable to .22 WMR than an actual baby 5.56?

      Anonymous

The 5.7 is far inferior to the 22 wmr in energy, but the 22 wmr is a lot of fun.

        Anonymous

I'm not denying that .22 WMR is fun, but why not a shortened .223 if OP wants a short .223?

          Anonymous

The 223 out of a super short barrel has about the energy of a 9mm. I guess that's fine. You wouldn't have to buy different calibers and it's cheaper. Do you have a build plan for a 223 pistol?

.221 has more energy out of a 10 inch barrel than 5.7 has from a 16 inch barrel, and you can buy a pistol chambered in it off the shelf (although it's a bolt action).

Sure, although it's long enough that you'll probably have trouble finding a handgun with a magazine long enough to fit it. It's less than a quarter inch longer than 5.7 FN, but that's already on the extreme end of long handgun cartridges. I'm sure there's something obscure out there that would work.

No it isn't, especially out of a pistol. You get those shit stats by comparing 5.7 our of a pistol to .22mag out of a rifle.

Ive owned the MK 1 FNH 5.7. Its a blast to shoot, and the ammo is getting cheaper. Really good carry gun too. Very light, and slim (the FN one). go for it.

I just bought a Mk3 and I like it, but I don't know which carry ammo is good. I've heard mixed things about the Speer Gold Dots, black dragon fang meme bullets, etc.

    >Far more reliable than rimfire
    >Far softer/faster shooting than 9mm
    >Far greater rang than 9mm
    >one of the quieter supersonic rounds to suppress
It's a neat round, kind of weak but with other merits.
