This may be controversial, but 5.56 is being squeezed out from both sides, at one end by 6-7mm and 8.6mm calibers for rifles and machineguns that benefit from the extra range and power, and at the low end by 5.7x28, because whats the point of having a 10.5 inch AR with all the flash and blast of 5.56 when you can have it in 5.7 and have mag compatibility with pistols? And for clandestine stuff theres no reason not to go to .300 blackout since it has better suppressed performance and good supersonic load out of short barrels.
Fuck ya mudda
Came here to say this, but also to ask wtf did all the 5.45 disappear to.
Russia got cut off, 5.45 go bye bye. Supposedly PSA is standing up 5.45 and other steel case production as part of AAC.
Hopefully this war ends soon and we can all be friends, because we need cheap ammo and some cool RUssian guns.
I was in Russia before the war, people were friendly and things seemed to be getting better for the Russian people. Went to Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Saratov. It is a beautiful country with a lot of history and culture. I have family from Russia, and I had a coworker from Ukraine before the war. I told him this the day the invasion broke out, that we are praying for peace. He responded positively, but ended up in the Azov Regiment. Now here I am in Alabama, thousands of people dying, and I am safe with food to eat and air conditioning. But I am an American, and I know that America needs strong men right now, to help us through these times.
I do not feel compelled to go and kill my Christian brothers in service to some zionist government. I am a patriotic American and a Patriot, and I have committed my life to prove this. I love the USA and will lay down my life for it, if I must. Lord have mercy on us all.
Good for him that he actually wanted to go fight. I had a friend form there who won a green card to the u.s., went to visit family a little bit before the war broke out, and has been stuck there since. Too bad that the govt there is basically tyrannical
Agreed, but I'd imagine we'd sooner see Ukie guns and ammo before russian sanctions are lifted. If at all.
>unironically comparing 5.7x28 with 5.56x45.
Hide.
The point is that short 5.56 rifles don't offer much over 5.7 in short barrels, and for larger service rifles the trend is towards larger calibers
We'll be back at the rifles and MGs in one caliber and pistols and SMGs in another paradigm from WW2, but with improved pistol and rifle calibers.
5.56 offers 2.4 times more muzzle energy for the same barre length
>Muh muzzle energy
Doesn't translate into terminal effectiveness and you also get a shitload of blast and flash for your trouble. Short, suppressed AR based PDWs in 5.7 are the future.
>[energy] Doesn't translate into terminal effectiveness
Getting a measly ice pick wound that wastes the energy is possible, but not inevitable, and not a random chance you can't do anything about. There's every opportunity now to use projectiles designed to deform at lower velocities and harness that energy on soft tissue. On the other hand, "failing" to use the extra energy on a threat's soft tissue might mean it's what ends the fight by cracking the spine behind it.
This makes sense to me.
Not really relevant since the 5.56 is btfo by Valkyrie,Grendel, arc, every 6.5mm+. It's antiquated. It makes more sense to step up or step down.
>Valkyrie,Grendel,arc
Who?
>Arguing from ignorance
Oh no I know them all quite well, I visited their graves a few weeks ago. The only meme round that's been able to go anywhere is 300blk and that's only because it basically just does 7.62x39s job while being AR-friendly. 6mm ARC, 6.8 SPC, 6.5 Grendel, 224 valk, 458 SOCOM, and all of their peers all came and went. They've all had time to get a place in the market and they all ended up as hyper-niche rounds for contrarians
This, 6.5 Sneedmore looks like it may have broken out into mainstream success like .300 blackout but all those other meme rounds are dead. Maybe it will be eclipsed by civilian version of the 6.8 mm military memeround.
Retarded
>mag compatibility with pistols
Terminal vidya brain
Let me know when meme rounds stop costing 50+% more than 556 and maybe the people that actually shoot will start using them some capacity
>The point is that short 5.56 rifles don't offer much over 5.7 in short barrels,
Retard
>and at the low end by 5.7x28, because whats the point of having a 10.5 inch AR with all the flash and blast of 5.56 when you can have it in 5.7 and have mag compatibility with pistols?
Lol imagine caring what a barrelet thinks, much less making decisions based around their fantasy of being useful.
%3D%3D
>5.56 and 5.7 are comparable in short barrels
>no they aren’t
>well that doesn’t matter because there are other calibers that nobody use
Nice goalpost, sperg. Just say you bought a 5.7 because of video games, instead of coping that you overpaid for a glorified .22 magnum with your intellectually bankrupt thread.
Shorty ARs, and similar select fire carbines, are the reason SMGs are being phased out, not the other way around.
Can someone explain to me why there are so many clueless retards mouthing off about SBR 5.56 performance lately?
Some youtuber probably said it. Ammo is up so it's cheaper to just look at spreadsheets.
It was a popular troll on /arg/. It's just spreading as a way to "own" PrepHoleommandos.
You don't have guns
>terrain
>average engagement distance increasing significantly
>ubiquitous optics with gucci shit
Maybe per
>rifles and MGs in one caliber and pistols and SMGs in another paradigm from WW2, but with improved pistol and rifle calibers.
Then again retaining 556 as the M1/Grease Gun PDW more likely in the US, where Europe might move toward 5.7.
how is it being phased out by 5.7? the only guns using it are the P90 and some meme handguns?
>muh FiveSeveN
git
>zoomer minmax video game mentality
even if 5.56 is objectively worse it doesn't really matter, it has the inertia of nato adoption and every rifle anyone gives a damn about being chambered in it
there's not a whole lot 5.56 can't do that 224 valk can
also your point on 5.7 is retarded, nobody uses 5.7 mags in pccs, and 5.7 isn't as powerful out of a 10 inch barrel anyways
*nobody uses 5.7 handgun mags in pccs
I remember when we argued in hasguns factors like cpr, now its all videogame zoomer noguns bullshit like damage output.
5.56/.223 will remain popular for decades to come due to its weight and ease of access
The split hair difference in ballistics simply does not matter when in a war you're out of ammo and if you crack open an ammo box there's a 99% chance it's 5.56 NATO.
