I want to try and push the limit of “how many 3d printed parts can I use in a build” as an experiment.
I am impressed by the FGC9 but I have two main complaints about it:

I want to limit the amounts of machines used. Simple metal parts that are 2.5D can be made with simple hand tools but others like barrel and slide are machined out of aluminium and steel. I want a random Londoner to be able to build this quickly in his appartment, so CNC machining is out of the question.
For this specific application (slide / upper assembly) would carbon nylon (NylonX or other) be a good substitute for aluminium?

You need an enclosure for abs ander almost any circumstance.
Nylon can be had at a higher price but makes a far more reliable part. And only requires a heated bed to 80c, an abrasion resistant nozzle and some fine tuning. All enders go up to 260C on the nozzle. Thats like baseline temp for most nylons to print strong and reliably.
Oh and dont forget tochange the bowden tube if you can afford it. You dont want brain damage from ptfe fumes.
yeah for abs needs a clean room and heated environment. you can work out defects by burying the part in sand and heating in the oven untill it is sintered together and binds layers better.

The breach face. Same thing that stops the brass from flying backwards. The brass has practically no strength compared to the pressure inside guns, the strength comes from the chamber walls and lockup.

Why would getting .22 be easier than getting 9mm in yurop? Both are very common and both require a license to get in all euro countries (afaIk). You could reasonably produce 9mm or .380 ammo yourself (see the DD guide for 9mm, .380 has been produced by converting blank cartridges) but you're not going to make your own .22s.
Second, making a barrel is not that hard (check out the FGC9 guide).
The part that would be the most difficult in your build is probably going to be the slide. All the semi-auto guns that are DIY (not using kits) are PCCs, and for a good reason. I haven't seen anyone come up with a good pistol design yet, because it's much harder to do than a PCC. You need to have a well designed slide that is able to contain the pressure of a cartridge.

Sure, that is an advantage of using .22. If you used 9mm, you would need to somehow machine a slide out of steel (or come up with a different solution). But .22 is very forgiving.

EU guidelines specify that EU B class ammunition has to have the same restriction as B class firearms. This includes most handgun rounds except 22lr.
Also 22lr is a lot less powerful than 9mm meaning we can get away with less bulky designs.

Quality 3d-printed carbines exist, compact autoloaders is a hurdle for the 3DP gun community.
Go with something like the historical Robinson pistol.
Open bolt and blowback, with a long slide travel.
The slide is just there for weight. The barrel floats slightly in the action to reduce recoil force. As simple as you can get at a base concept level. The 'rotating barrel' idea can be dropped as it probably never did anything in the first place. Making it easier to make.

Honestly, you can probably make everything except the bolt and barrel with a 3D printer, the bolt could probably be aluminum and the barrel could be whatever (might not be too concerned with rifling). Just use a stiff enough spring to mitigate recoil instead of relying on bolt weight. Also you might as well make it open bolt, since the design is simpler and is a must have for a machine gun (in for a penny, in for a pound).
You should look into the 10/22 receiver files while you're at it. You may not want to deal with the frickery associated with a slide and go more for a Mac 10/11 approach at first so that you can get a feel for what's right, plus I think you could scale that down to 22 pretty well

Actually, anons, once I get off work I think I'll start on making a rifle that uses airgun pellets and the rimfire caps for a nail gun. It'd require a double magazine setup, but I think it'd be a better approach than trying to solve the ammo issue since they carry those .50 caliber caps pretty much anywhere and the regulation should be more lax. Semi auto at the very least is a must, of course.
My general idea is to have a magazine that holds ~10 caps and a second one located slightly forward of it. The cap chambers and fires, pushing the .22/.177 pellet down the barrel and into the rifling. Biggest issue would probably be the pressure that the pellet magazine would have to endure, I think. Plus the pressure would be pretty high because of the barrel necking down from a .50 to a .22/.177, it might just blast the pellet mag out of the bottom or cause it to explode. Either way, I'd love to hear opinions on this idea

if you live in France, Italy or Germany (aka 80% of the EU) then 9mm falls as a class B ammunition, requiring a class B license. This also means that you can only purchase 9mm if you own a registered 9mm weapon and you can only buy 2000 rounds per annum.
Such license is harder to get than a class C or a hunting permit, with which 22LR is readily available with no limitations.

In some places its easier to come by some ammo than others, and it's not wrong to say that .22 is less regulated in some places. In others, .380 is more available due to 'military caliber' restrictions. Some guy was making a .380 full DIY carbine due to this reason. Laws are a mess and you have to work around what's available locally. That's why it's important to get a variety of designs online.
But in most cases, even the euros who are doing the gun printing over there tell you that the most practical method of obtaining ammo is crime. Know a guy who knows a guy who's willing to sell off some of his legal ammo. Steal it from somebody. Buy it off the shady serb.

.22lr or .25acp are your best bets. I'm not saying you want to copy the design but strictly speaking the Zip22 had a polymer bolt.
You could make a much heavier bolt out of plastic if you make the bolt itself a lot bigger than what was in the zip22. Using a classic rifle form factor. I dont have the numbers on hand but I did some calculations and a solid plastic bolt the same weight/mass as the slide on a colt vest pocket is totally doable if I remember right.

Unlike the FGC this would actually have significant implications for Europeans. The FGC can’t exactly be carried on your person every day, but a compact semi auto .22 is simultaneously many times better than a knife and something that realistically can be made with largely 3D-printed components.

why make a homemade lathe? if you are going to use a lathe just buy a used or a small chink one. and you can use a drill press as an improvised lathe and they go for 600 bananas it should be close to 120 to 180 maple Leafs. or 100 burguer wrappers.
You can't cut sideways with a drill press, you'll damage it. They are not rigid enough for that sort of work.

Sup OP. There's another Euro in your position, doing the same thing. He's working on a semi auto, slide operated .22 pistol and has posted videos of a prototype functioning. He's waiting until he finishes developing it to post the files.
In the same vein, nearly 100% of the Ruger 10/22 can be printed now. There's a fully printed bolt in beta, the concept proven by the printed EZ22 bolt for .22 ARs. I'm working on getting a printed trigger group working. The only thing you have to get is a .22 barrel liner, an ECM'd barrel, or just yolo it with rigid brake line for a bore. But you've basically got a 100% diy autoloading firearm. The EX22 has been around for a while, but it at least the size of an AR pistol. The 10/22 can be smaller still, and that one euro is of course working on an actual pistol.
Things are getting exciting. I'm working on a couple fully DIY concepts myself. That to me is the neatest aspect of 3D printed firearms, and the easier you can make the gun to build, the better. That's what I'm focusing on. Though, at the same time, I'm also putting together some CNC tools to make more advanced designs with sturdier materials, including CNC milled steel parts, but the idea of the as-easy-as-possible 95% printed DIY firearm will always be my favorite part. You bet your ass the moment ECM bottleneck chambers are developed, I'll be jumping on the bandwagon to develop the first autoloading 100% DIY intermediate carbine, with a focus on being as easy to produce and assemble as possible.

You could make is a little bit more compact by putting the trigger in front of the magazine and creating a custom magwell that doubles as a handle,(although idk if the complexity would be worth it).

You can make your own caps with priming compounds and old aluminum cans either using a purpose built cutter and die or by cutting out aluminum circles and then pressing them through a hardwood block with a chamfered hole in it.
You don't even need to buy priming compound, mix 2/3rd ground up matches with 1/3rd shaved off red powder from the striker.
It's corrosive as frick but works great

You are pretty moronic if you think thats actually a viable option. The power storage alone to run such a device that would put as much energy on target as a .22 is going to weigh hundreds of pounds and only be able to fire once every 10 minutes. Play less video games and read a physics book.
The "coil" part needs to develop further first for it to be viable. There's an interview about it on YouTube from the company that developed the coilgun forgotten weapons tried out not too long ago. Might be a few years or decades.
That shit doesn't scale linearly. A magnetic coil is a magnetic coil. They've had them since the 1900's and its not going to advance any farther than it has in the last century. Believe it or not, there's hard limits on material physics that makes stuff impossible. The ENERGY STORAGE needs to advance. Storing and discharging large amounts of energy is always going to weigh a lot because even if you have just 1% of the electricity you are discharging turn into heat, its still enough to destroy rails, melt down capacitors, and vaporize contact points in circuits. So you need to add more material, which means more weight.
Guess what? That shit doesn't scale linearly either. So now you are building a device the size of a refrigerator just to do what a couple grams of gunpowder in a barrel can, and its still reliant upon an outside power source to recharge. A process which ALSO scales in time in relation to how big your capacitor bank is. The only solutions are a more powerful (thus larger) power supply, or a longer recharge time.
So at this point you've got about 800 pounds of equipment that costs aboit $10,000 just to accomplish what, again, a 5 cent .22 lr round in a $50 single shot rifle can do.
It isn't "a few years or decades away." Matierial physics isn't going to magically stop working by then. They aren't going to magically figure out that you can just bang two rocks together and magically be able to store, generate, and discharge hilarious amounts of electricity without adding mass.

Supposedly you can make the coils oval and slightly rotate each subsequent coil to impart rotation onto the projectile same way a rifled barrel does, but I have yet to see a design that does it successfully.

Depends on where you live I guess. In west-europe I haven't heard of a 9mm glock under 3.k for years, most of the time it's more like 4-5k for gen5 etc. Less desirable 9mm's might go lower but I don't think you'll find a nice one under 2k.
I've never seen an ak under 2.4k for sale even when in bad shape. 500-700euro sounds more like balkan prices...or fantasy price?

Huh, that's not the case here, there has been twice that i know of that people have tried to see how long it would take for someone with no connections to buy a gun as a journalist thing and for the journalist i think it took a few hours in a major city and for a smaller city it took some random guy about a week.
Think it would be less likely for them to actually sell you something here if you did look shady and they didn't know you, because of all the gang conflicts, don't want to be arming your enemy.

CMMG pattern mags (there are variations for other .22 mags) and any milspec lower or custom lower for other mags. Most use DS1913 printed lowers.

The biggest problem with using 3D printed parts for high pressure, high impact, and high temperature applications is that no matter what exotic filaments you use (nylong, nylonx, etc etc) its still a thermoplastic deposited in layers. If it gets hot it will melt. If it gets impacted too many times there will be layer separation.
Additionally, carbon fiber filaments and other such enhanced thermoplastics are a bit of a gimmick. They just make a part a little more stiff along whatever axis the layers are oriented in. The fibers are not actually binding the layers together. Its obviously a property you can exploit for increased performance in certain applications, but its not an end all solution to the drawbacks of 3D printing.
Its also more expensive, and requires either a more expensive printer, or some pricey and potentially finnicky mods to a cheaper printer to work. My experience with exotic filaments has been that they are a big headache for an only marginal performance increase.

Didn't JStark had a heart condition or anything? In any case all the guys involved in the FGC-9 were pretty annoyed by people claiming he was killed by glowies. If anything being raided may contributed to heart failure.
Jstark had horrible health and stated numerous times that he had no intention of surviving being caught. He didn't get killed by glowies unless you count the effects of stress due to the arrest and probably him ceasing his medication.

Da guy is me. Been trying not to get caught up talking about it too much. The roller delay nothin too fancy, just some crudely cut rollers/bearings made from steel spacers of appropriate size to mesh into eachother. And a wedge made from mild steel flat stock. Is that one your project? I seent it posted elsewhere was curious how that works internally too lol.
Not mine, but I'm pretty sure it just runs on an AK bolt, barrel and trunnion with a bunch of other shit bolted on for feed and recoil. I like your solution a lot. Are those steel blocks behind the roller recess blocks all it takes to absorb the recoil and prevent headspacing from creeping backwards? I've been wrestling with some rear-locking concepts and trying to find the best way to contain the locking components so that they don't stretch the receiver out since the trunnion is at the front of the receiver and the lock is at the rear.
The theory I was working with for those steel blocks was that the direction of the force being imparted into the bearings changes as the rollers move inward, but is largely directed into the rear portions of the bearings. So the bars are set diagonally rearward of the bearings to add some rigidity. Really what ends up happening though is the sides of the receiver flare out more than you might think initially when it recoils. This is only for like 1/500th of a second, and not necessarily intentional, but it is how the receiver absorbs the outward force the rollers impart into the bearings. That picture is a bit old, there is now a small split modeled into the receiver down the portion in front of the bolt, which allows the receiver to have more give during recoil without damaging itself.
Also headspace is pretty much set once the bolt face is JB welded in. It can't really creep backwards since the front half of the bolt is held forward by some magnets (also to prevent bolt bounce).
