I 3D print tens of kilograms worth of plastic, and using these walls for bathrooms is a perfect enviroment for some serious unsanitary shit to grow between them.
It might be mold resistant, but it is impossible to clean effectively, and all your shit particles will get stuck between the layers. Brown lines in between might make a nice decoration tho

I'm an architect and 3d print a lot on my own, in addition to my work. Been keeping up with the 3d construction game, I'm not sure why the walls aren't sheathed? Concrete block construction should still have vapor barriers and such; why is the 3d printed nature of these structures celebrated like this? Doesn't make sense to me other than as a weak flex "oh look at my 3d printed building!"

        >Doesn't make sense to me other than as a weak flex "oh look at my 3d printed building!"
It doesn't. If the speed of construction is paramount then they'd use prefab panels like in commie blocks. Flat-pack that shit and ship it to location, it's actually faster than extruding layer by layer.
What extrusion does is that you can basically have a unique layout for every job, as a different prefabs would require engineering and certifying a new panel, change the molds, and cast them before deliveries could start. By 3d printing you can do a different layout on every contract you get awarded, and the only changes is to the CAD model.

And you just know the MTI is going to give you a brush and have you clean it until it shines right? It's the same reason they have brass trim in random areas of the dorm. To make you clean and buff it over and over again.

It was left unfinished to show off, but could easily be pressure washed. An ideal barracks would be designed for pressure washing.

That seems kind of shitty. I'm surprised they don't just bring back that single pour concrete method where you cast a whole building at once if they want fast builds. It's shit to renovate but for a static barracks it probably works

Realistically how cost effective & faster to build are these structures? Are they more cost effective than regular wood plank barrack with some insulation?

A lot of showers are like this. There are no doors in boot camp and one large communal shower in boot camp. Training facilities usually have open showers like this with no hot water like in 29 Palms. That's how you spot the homosexuals.

When I went to JRTC it was all big tents and port-a-johns. After we got "out of the box" we spent at least one night in old wooden WWII style barracks, I think just to be able to shower before getting on the bus to go home. I think that was the only shower I took that whole month, and I just put my underwear straight into the trash at endex.

Metal is more expensive than plastic made from pop bottles and that's one way they can recycle garbage. Get infantry to literally live in trash houses before you send them to warzones to make more houses into trash. It's genius, really.

It's cool, but at this point just prefabs the concrete walls, bring them on site and connect them. No need to align a precision machine on rails and expose it to the elements, a crane will do.
