300 AAC and 5.56x45

Inch for barrel inch and pound for lbs/sqft, what are the benefits of running 300BO out of a short barrel (talking 9 inches-ish) over 5.56 out of a short barrel? The most immediate answer is sound signature when suppressed, but what about unsuppressed? Does 300BO have some edge over 5.56 in this area?

5.56 is dead unless you have a 1/12 twist 20" AR
For a 9" barrel, there's no comparison and 300 BLK is far superior

      >For a 9" barrel
The overwhelming majority of people neither have nor want SBR's or rifle-caliber pistols

Yes, 5.56 is a meme unless you're going to build the gun to do the thing it was originally designed to do. Otherwise just choose a better chambering.

but why would I do that when we aren't shooting the same bullets as we were 6 years ago and I can get reliable fragmention out to 300 yards with an 11.5?

most people's ar's are 16-20" barrels, youre not losing much from 5.56 by going down to 16, about 100fps. as a practical matter, the flatter trajectory of 223 will be of far greater importance to yoour average gun owner than the better sbr and supressed performance of 300 (both of which 223 still performs adequately in). There's also the factors of cost, and ammo compatibility, both of which 223 is superior in as it is the standard, and will remain so for the foreseeable future.

A 5.56 out of a 10.3 barrel will still kill at every defensive shooting distance. This shit somehow worked out for USSOCOM

300 BLACKED just has the advantage of being quieter and less flashy with a can

.300blk is superior for suppressing, even using supers which is all I shoot.
.300blk is superior out of short barrels.
    5.56 has superior range.
5.56 goes through mild steel better.
The rest is just pedantic and mental masturbation.

This is just gun industry bullshit to make you spend more money. If you have an AR 15 you can already shoot 300 B.O.
Don't believe me? Buy a box. The sales guys at the gun store will lie and tell you that you need a 300 B.O. barrel, but that's them near trying to sell you shit. Take that ammo hope, you'll see it fits perfectly in you're existing .223/5.56 mags. You'll also notice that it chambers perfectly.
It's the same crap about not firing 5.56 in your .223 gun. It's just bullshit designed to make you spend more money.
So get out there and have some fun!

This will blow up in your face, probably take a eye lid off, and destroy the gun. I know you are joking, at least I hope you are. But some people might just believe you.

62gr in a 1:12 20" is hilarious and very educational. Started me learning a lot more about what I shoot.

Personally 14.5"+ for 5.56 and 9-16" for .300 BLK. MrGunsNGear did a good video comparing multiple 300 BLK weights and barrel lengths.

Whatever length you go with depends on your usage, muzzle device, etc.

Lmao you pathetic barrellets never fail to make me laugh with your "SBR" threads. Face it, most rifles will be infinitely more effective than your sad pistols will ever be. You are shooting mall ninja 7.62x39, get over it larpers

there is no benefit between 7 and 10.5 inch barrel on 300 blackout, go do the math if you don't believe me. 7 inch or nothing.
