At least its about a major historical battle that lasted for months and not a hours long 'video essay' on some shit game.

On D-Day a channel is planning to do 24 hour long hour-by-hour series on every single thing that happened on D-Day, as it happened. Their WW2 series that has been doing a week by week retelling of WW2 as it happened across all fronts is pretty solid, even if it’s not incredibly in depth.

It's not quite as "autistic" in the sheer level of detail, since it's a day-by-day view of the war.

Yes I watch WW2 (and most of WW1) gives you a really good picture of how quickly some campaigns developed when your getting it in weekly videos. I think they did a 24 hour pearl harbour video as well.
They do go light on the detail, but by there own admission they try to keep vidoes to the 20 minute mark and you can't go into that much detail when there's major battles all over the world. Their extra videos are good for the details, but I find those hosts a bit harder to watch, its all pretty well sourced though.

They go well into the politics of command and logistics and the difficulty of wrangling the allies together which I think most WWII histories miss out on for either a simplified version or an autistic focus on the blow by blow strategic and tactical manoeuvres. I appreciate that about them, if nothing else because it highlights what a tard the KMT, among others, could be.

Awful garbage, hope this trend dies really fast

I Think the only long narration youtube I like is Fall of Civilizations and The Exploring Series. Yes SCP is stupid but he's got a good narrative voice. Fall of Civilizations I was a little disappointed with the bronze age collapse because the dude literally just read from a single book, the pop culture 1187 year civilization collapsed. He could have, and should have, drawn from the multitude of other books on the subject. That said he was giving it access to people who wouldn't read it normally, but it was a bit dismaying when I saw he was just using a single source.

        >another hitler/darth vader analogy

Anyone reliant on pop cultural metaphors like that I won't have the time for. It's okay if you do it once or twice. Back when it was around everyone and their mother had some "This was a real life GOT" in the prologue to whatever they were covering.

Yeah his early videos weren’t very strong. He upped the quality a lot, which is why theyre now hours long and come out once every 4-6 months. I think the khemer was the first good one, but the Assyrians one is great

the WW2 channel has been fantastic, as others have pointed out. Week-by-week coverage of the events of the war, with additional content during the week.

        https://www.youtube.com/@WorldWarTwo/

        also this
same team did a 24 hours of Pearl Harbor, IIRC.

TIK is a skitzo mess nowadays he uploaded a long video where he rambles how there's a shadow war between gnostics and other people going on behind the veil. Apparently Hitler, Napoleon etc were gnostic warriors.

His interpretations of non-military history stuff is ... interesting.
however his coverage of Stalingrad and other battles has been top notch IMO. Just about every point he makes / event he covers in those videos he lists his sources from credible historians. Few others do that.

Why, though. What's in for it for them? Why do they make these vids? Do they get paid even if viewers only watch a few minutes and they hope the "uniqueness" of having a workday-long video will attract them? Even if it's sheer autism there can't be that many autists who (unironically) watch the whole thing .

people leave it on, imagine 100k views 1 hour long, that's enough to get monetized instantly and make some bucks

            Anonymous

The point of a lot of these multi hour long videos are not to be viewed in one sitting but rather about 30 minute chunks, if they are actually well made they will be written in a way that makes this work well. Some do just actually make a 8 hour long rant b***hing about a response to a response to a response.

I think it happens because editing actually takes more time than recording and this basically eliminates the editing process, and the length helps it become eye catching. If it’s so long, it must have a lot of effort put into it.

Not really /k/ related but Fall or Civilizations podcast is on YouTube and has excellent research + good production value for the sounds, very immersive.

Toldinstone is a Roman history-focused historian that does excellently focused but detailed videos on mundane aspects of life (e.g. 'What did Rome Smell Like', 'Why were gladiators fat', 'how many Roman soldiers grew old', 'night on the town as a Roman aristocrat' etc.)
His cadence and manner of speaking is good for listening to in the background/sleeping too

Gonna second both of these. Fall of civilizations is borderline god tier, just pick an episode that sounds interesting to you and be entranced. Told in stone focuses on short but very specific content about very nice, everyday and less covered topics, to give you a better picture of the day by day world of antiquity.

I’ll also add Ancient Americas, which is focused solely on the Americas but is quite in depth on history and very explicit with his sources.
There’s also Historians Craft, who has a focus on explaining what we do and don’t know, and how we do or don’t know it, and debates within the field over specific topics. He makes no attempts to wow you or bullshit.

Esoterica is the most godtier academic YouTuber, imo. No one covers niche theology better than him and I don’t think anyone else is making content like him. Dude actually seeks out untranslated Kabbalistic texts and explains them. And he sticks to his guns of refusing to make his content 101 stuff. He more than earns the right to insist on introducing himself as Doctor Justin Sledge.

Play by play of the Battle of Guadalcanal, in extreme detail, 4 hours long.

There's also Admiral's Decision, a doujin series that is unironically one of the best resources I've ever seen for the Pacific War. It's mostly compiled battle reports with 2 pages of vanilla girl-on-girl action per issue.

I’m getting into one of them and it’s almost immediately schizobable
          >Marx was a secret gnostic and the stages of class society were secretly taken from “gnostic” ideas about the three stages of history
He’s also not even remotely close to what Gnosticism was, and he seems to be associating Kabbalah with Gnosticism, and he seems to be implying that Gnosticism was a later revision of Christian theology… actually everything he’s saying is such blatant schizobable. And then you read the comments and it’s a mix of praise, schizobable and people talking about how Christ saved them and we all need to follow Christ
This dude is supposed to be a reputable historian? He seems to be having an actual psychotic episode

Knowing anything about hermetacism or Gnosticism or theology or Hitler or Marxism makes it pretty immediately obvious that he doesn’t know what he’s talking about and it’s basically all coming from a single book he read and a Ted talk he saw about how occultists are responsible for trannies. It feels genuinely schizophrenic at times. He even claims the concept of the renaissance as a time period is a gnostic plot.
