I feel like a good IFV caliber should have a few requirements in order of importance: >1. Good effect on soft targets >2. Be able to pen enemy IFV, with diff ammo is ok I think >3. Have sufficient ammo for a long sortie
The Bradley is ok I think in these respects, it has good effects on soft targets with air burst ammo, can pen anything short of T72/T80 armor, and carries plenty of ammunition. If it couldn't pen say BMP armor, that would be big problem, but it doesn't need to do anymore than rattle/mobility kill a tank. IFVs should have ATGMs anyways in case they come up against tanks, and if they're out they should retreat. I think 30mm is probably good for this too, but 20mm is too low to attack other IFVs and 40mm is overkill and runs out of ammo too quickly.
20mm is good if you're just supossed to scoot and shoot like the M113 was supposed to do, or if you literally don't have space in your machine.
(If you're feeling special you can also have a high RPM 20mm gun to make up for it and it'd be a waste, but a fun waste)
25mm is a good compromise between penetration with APDS-T and acceptable explosive filler while not fucking over your ammo count.
30mm is technically the best choice before you're trusting in your ability to precisely hit things because you lack spare ammo in your machine. Sadly, most 30mm ammo is made by vatniks or chinks, if the west made 30mm ammo I'd say it's the perfect caliber with no doubts.
40mm is good, but to have any chance of having your IFV be effective with it as a fire-support platform for more than a few minutes you need to pair it with an MG or two, plus very good FCS so you don't fuck up your shots. The explosive filler is the best out there.
In an ideal world you'd use 50mm paired with a 7.62 and a 12.7mg and an ATGM to have the whole set of infantry support bullfuckery paired with some next-gen rangefinders, stabilizers, optics, automatic lead and what mumbojumbo the MIC produces.

Why stop at 50mm? I think instead of having a 7.62 and a 12.7mg and an ATGM in one vehicle, separate them into three different kinds of IFVs that work together during an operation. The first one will have 120mm cannon and heavy composite armor and be called a Main Battle IFV (MBIFV). The next will have lighter armor and a moderate auto cannon, with an ATGM called the Infantry Fighting Vehicle Fighting Vehicle (IFVFV). The final IFV will only have a 12.7mg or 50 cal and very light armor, I call it the Armored Patrol Infantry Fighting Vehicle (APIFV)
No I thinks it’s hilarious how soon they have to reload. There’s a reason no one bought the 40mm CV90. 30 is the real sweet spot

Funny enough a 30mm Upgunned Bradley was marketed alongside of the CV90(30mm)

People don't appreciate the Bradley. Imagine a column of mechanized infantry in Bradleys performing hit & run in a desert with no strong enemy air presence. They just capture oil field after oil field.
>Warsaw Pact has eleveenty bazillion BMPs >BMP have super thin armor >Get gun powerful enough to penetrate that armor, while being able to carry a lot of ammo to deal with all the enemy IFV
Seems reasonable.
I always knew I wanted Mule technicals, ever since my step father moron rigged a swiveling shooting seat and weapon mount that can sit in the bed that he used as a mobile deer stand.
Can kill bmps, can light up comblock concrete-and-rebar buildings, thermals to spot and literally blow chunks of flesh off of and through people, the TOW can kill armor. What are you complaining about?
>100 mm of pen should be enough
it kills bros dead
you can carry a lot of AMMO
Thats the reason
What's the best caliber for an IFV? 20mm (Marder), 25mm, 30mm (BMP), 40mm (CV90)?
30mm, just not russian 30mm

I imagine bradleys might get another midlife upgrade
Or they might consider moving to another chassis.

i think the future meta is gonna be airbursting smart rounds so 35-50mm so you can fit a programmable fuse and enough HE filler
>airburst meme
lol this bro stuck in the 90s
40 has enough pen and enough high explosive power to handle many threats.
The CV90 looks like a fucking tank
There is a test vehicle demonstrator.
But god awful capacity
234 is plenty when every shot is that powerful.
kek that’s in boxes. Only 24 rounds in the ready box and 48 in a carousel. It just doesn’t have the staying power of better IFVs
do you think they are unable to reload?

infantry is the one with staying power
27mm
25 or 30.
50mm
105
ENTER
With modern FCS? 50mm plus 20 or 30mm CROWs with external ammo
Anything 25mm can't handle gets a TOW.
It pens BMP nice.
Russia would BTFO this garbage with their new gen RPGs lmao
25mm with du is better than 30mm with tungsten
>inb4 muh war crimes
more like desert storm syndrome
depends on a few things. its not that clearcut.
We'll find out soon
I genuinely think I'll start ejaculating uncontrollably if we get some gun cam footage from these, like those ones from the BTR-4 in Mariupol.
i know right? we've not seen western hardware shredding sovietshit to shreds since the gulf war, and even then it wasn't live streamed in 4k
it was pretty cool seeing those modern BMPs absolutely destroying T72s with their cannon
>like those ones from the BTR-4 in Mariupol.
got any on hand?
thx anon
This one too: https://files.catbox.moe/nkif3k.mp4
would webm it but you'd miss the sound.
>gays gays!
Is he call the russians that, or does he see a fagot rocket launcher?
he called the russians "pidor"
>Bradleys on the steppes of Eastern Europe.
Holy shit what a beautiful sight.
did that guy just fortnite
Looking forward to seeing these get fucked up by 70 year old Soviet artillery.
25mm HEI-T kills infantry and unarmored vehicles, light structures
25mm DU sabot for enemy IFVs/APCs
I-TOW for tanks and bunkers
Fellas we all like armored vehicles why all the trolling? Bradley's are good solid IFVs this is known lol
>Warsaw Pact has eleveenty bazillion BMPs
>BMP have super thin armor
>Get gun powerful enough to penetrate that armor, while being able to carry a lot of ammo to deal with all the enemy IFV

.50 cal w/ TOW is enough
We can go even further
Nothing personal kid
why does the Tow 2 have a cock sleeve?
They weren't considering that it couldn't be exported to Israel
peep the space age one
shrinks with age
I always knew I wanted Mule technicals, ever since my step father moron rigged a swiveling shooting seat and weapon mount that can sit in the bed that he used as a mobile deer stand.
Can it fire on the move?
Yes all Bradley's have stabilized guns and the fire tables require shooting on the move at station and non stationary targets.
50mm is good for shooting down drones but i think they removed that requirement so the OMFV may have a 30mm instead
I don't see any reason to upgrade pass 30mm. ATGMs and loitering munitions will handle anything the 30mm can't pen
We should test CT ammo for all mm and rethink our ammo mix in light of the results.
Can kill bmps, can light up comblock concrete-and-rebar buildings, thermals to spot and literally blow chunks of flesh off of and through people, the TOW can kill armor. What are you complaining about?
His favorite IFV isn’t well rounded
Pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew
>25mm
As opposed to what?
