Rifles: CZ 457 for a basic fun rifle, Ruger 10/22 if you're into shooting children in the knees
Pistols: either Browning Buck Mark or S&W SW22 Victory, both will be as accurate as you allow them to up to 50m

go with the bolt gun if you hunt small critters. 10/22 being autoloader often has 1st shot of the magazine slightly off group because it gets chambered differently or something

Gorgeous rifle. How forgiving is that bolt for left handed? How quiet? I’m assuming the hammer drop is the loudest part of that setup.

There is a video of a guy shooting a pit bull in the head with a handgun, the bullet simply deflects off it's skull. It KO'd the pit but didn't kill it.

          Well damn.

Only issue ive had is with the mag (first round or two have feed issues if I fill it up), so I end up loading 8 most of the time. Luv me mini nana mag tho.

There was that female school shooter that killed a bunch of elementary school kids with a 10/22 as well.

10/22 is good but maybe a bit overrated. There's other good .22lr rifles out there but 10/22 does have an excellent aftermarket.

For pistols avoid the S&W P22 it's a pile of shit. Get a Ruger Mk III/IV/V or Buckmark. Or one of those little mouse guns like the Bobcat or even a Jennings just to frick around with or tuck into your sock.

Out of the box picrel is better. FF barrel threaded and ready for can. Shwagpul stock, fiberoptic sights picatinny railed. All that is like 1200 worth of upgrades to a 10/22 but this was under 300 for a long time, might still be. I like Eley ammunition as the cases have a lacquering applied to them to help feeding. Sadly the ammo now clocks in at 13-15 cpr. Hope you stocked up!

That's fair. TCR is basically what you'd get if you bought a 10/22 and did some basic mods to it, except it's already like that out of the box. It's absolutely a worthwhile option to consider. If you want something fancier there are the Volquartsen rifles.
Also depending on what you want, you can build a "10/22" 100% from parts. Many companies make 10/22 receivers, trigger groups, barrels, stocks, etc, and it takes very little work to put one together, they are simpler to build and require fewer tools than an AR. If you don't see what you want off the shelf buy the parts and put it together.

10/22 is a little more expensive than similar rifles that are just as accurate and reliable. It's got a good reputation which let's them get away with a higher pricr. It doesn't really do much other rifles do except for it's kick ass 25 round mags. I'm being kinda pedantic so you maybe save $100 on a different cheap .22lr rifle is all.

10/22 is better if you want to trick it out and stick it in like that Hightower bullpup stock. If you want a basic .22lr to shoot beer cans and squirrels a Marlin, Savage even a Mossberg are just as good as a basic model 10/22 imo.

First thing you have to realize is that a lot of the hot inmates are probably making more money than you per month because of simps. So I would write to the cuties I thought were actually just bored. Back when you could write to Washington state chicks, they were all so desperate for attention that once one got my number (had a burner) I was getting 10 to 15 calls at night during their phone time. I just thought that was funny, like an ugly dude was causing fights between women just because they wanted some male attention.
Also it is funny to hear their plans when they get out. Most have no education, no real work experience but think they are going to be making 100k+ when they get out. They all are "going to change" and want a good man to settle down with. That's all I have, nothing exciting

Were you talking to them just for shits and giggles, or trying to pursue any of them? How bad were the fights they’d get in? This is like the reverse of simps and eprostitutes on twitch, hilarious

                >trying to pursue any of them?
No, absolutely not. I have worked in secured facilities and would never touch anyone that has served time. It was mostly out of boredom, plus I do like learning about the experiences other people have, even though that sounds homosexual as frick.

The fights weren't anything major, I shouldn't even have called them fights. It sounds like it was mostly high school like shit. "oh shit I got yo man's number now he mine" type shit with a little bit of honey bun thievery and a slap here or there. This was all told to me 2nd hand so Idk.

Honestly was a very cheap way to pass the time, just make sure they use an email service so they dont know your address or po box obviously. And remember the hot ones make a shitload of money and will probably ghost you if you arent giving them cash regularly. If you get ghosted by a female prisoner you are probably the biggest loser ever

Official Israeli doctrine is that .22LR is a non-lethal round
It was a small scandal when a 13-year-old protestor actually got killed from a gut shot, the Israelis flexed that they had shot over 200 Palestinians with zero deaths before that

            >How bad is the gun actually? I seem to remember they needed a lot of mods to delete the "ruger" out of them.
I own two, I've played with several others belonging to friends. In my experience the majority of the problems people report with them are either the gun or the magazines are dirty as shit, or the problem is garbage quality ammo. It's not that you have to keep them super clean or anything like that, but you can't neglect them either. That applies to any .22, the powder is relatively dirty and the bullets are often waxed which makes gunk stick in the gun or the mags. With good ammo (CCI Mini Mags are my favorite) I'd expect 3 or fewer feed issues out of 100 rounds fired out of a bone stock 10/22. If you put a Volquartsen extractor in the gun (a cheap part that's easy to install yourself) you can expect maybe one problem out of a couple hundred rounds. Failures to fire are nearly always ammo-related. Volquartsen makes a firing pin that hits a larger part of the rim of the case which makes this problem less likely, but I haven't really noticed much of a difference before-and-after. Worry about your ammo if you're having failures to fire. That's pretty much it as far as reliability. The nice thing about the 10/22 is the aftermarket is so huge you can customize the gun however you want. It's also a really easy gun to work on, you don't need any specialty gunsmith tools. One screw holds the action in the stock. Two screws hold the barrel in the action, no need for a special barrel wrench. You can get parts from budget to fancypants high end, everything from tactical themed to hunting to high precision target shooting is possible so it's pretty easy to see why people mod them even when the basic ones run fine.

          Very nice anon

I find the cleaning to be easier than on the auto. My procedure is to brush out the barrel bore and the chambers with some solvent, hit the ends of the cylinder with an old toothbrush, and then spray all the gunk off/out with gun scrubber or auto brake cleaner, then I apply a drop of lube here and there and wipe it down with a rag. The whole process takes just a couple of minutes.

The first 617 I bought was the current version, 10 shot with the lock. I liked it so much I started hunting around for a pre-lock model which I ended up buying on gunbroker, then I sold the first one. Honestly there's no difference in accuracy or reliability but the pre-lock model has nicer fit and finish and there's no lock. The lock offends me because it doesn't need to be there but honestly it's never given me any trouble on that 617, and I own other nu-S&Ws with the lock that have likewise been reliable. If you're looking for a pre-lock model 617 be aware that there are both 6 and 10 shot versions. They're equally reliable though the 10 shots are more expensive.

Thanks for the heads up and makes sense on the cleaning. Can confirm on pre-locks being the gold standard. Will have to keep my eyes out for one. I'm considering a revolver since it retains the shells. My range is picky about that stuff oddly enough.

I love it. It's heavy and it has a fantastic trigger so it's super accurate, it feels great in the hand. I've had a dud now and then but it wasn't the gun's fault, it's always given a good hard hit on the rim, it's just that rimfire ammo isn't the most reliable so sometimes you get a round where there's missing primer compound.
Mk4's are great too, the only time mine has given me trouble was after I accidentally dropped a mag on some ground with very fine sand, then that mag wouldn't feed reliably. It worked fine after I cleaned it out. They run well suppressed too which you cannot say for all 22 pistols.

What's your cleaning look like on the 617? Any less so than an auto? Does the 617 have the safety? If so, have you deleted it?

            Anonymous

One of these bad bois is all you need for a good time. Fairly cheap and fun to shoot. Ammo is cheap and easily bought in bulk and it can bag plenty of small game animals if you need it too. It's more practical in a rifle, but I have a .22 pistol too just for lols. Easily suppressed too, even if you're not shooting subs.

Totally worth it - should've bought one for my first rifle because of how cheap the damn thing is.
Got a ruger 10/22, which looks similar to picrel and because the previous owner bullpup'd it, no one wanted it so I paid $150.

i have a cbc 122 i won on gunbroker for like $50 that was in really good condition. lot of fun and a good trainer. supposedly when remington discontinued the model 66 this brazilian company bought the tooling and just kept making it. a lot of the parts are interchangeable with the 66.

i also have a noa pug in 22lr/wmr thats fun and something i throw in a pocket as a backup, a shitty lorsin i got for $20 that sort of works, an sr22 thats a fun and reliable, and a marlin 60 thats pretty fun as well.

i want to get a used 10/22 to do basically this for fun

The better question is are larger calibers than .22lr really worth it? I'm starting to think the answer is no in the vast majority of cases.

You can do a lot with a .22lr but they have really iffy stopping power against people and animals much larger than a medium sized dog. Somebody recently poached a elephant with a .22lr and that McCandless guy killed a moose with one but it's not an appropriate hunting round since it goes parabolic after 150 yards.

If you could only own one gun to do everything a 10/22 isn't a bad choice since it can work in a pinch in a lot of situations.

Pitbulls are just dogs with mental illness. They bite and don't let go until whatever teats loose. You can saw their fricking heads off with a little pocket knife while they're latched to your boot or jacket sleeve. They won't let go but can't tell the difference between a leather glove and a toddler's throat.

            Could .22lr do the trick?

              Anonymous

Yeah just shoot them but the problem is the thing will be latched on to a little kid and be thrashing around. How do you get a clean shot? I got a pocket knife so sharp you could shave with it. For pibbles, I'd just sit on them and manually slice their throats out.

I’m considering a .22lr compact revolver for this reason. Something for low effort carry but capable shooting a Pittbull. .38 would be better but it is also larger.

There is a video of a guy shooting a pit bull in the head with a handgun, the bullet simply deflects off it's skull. It KO'd the pit but didn't kill it.

                >the hollow point totally fully mushroomed against the skull while bouncing off then landed on the sidewalk
That's not how bullets work. I'd be willing to bet that he just grazed the back of the skull and the bullet continued its trajectory through the body/neck area of the dog and came out the other side, considering defensive ammo is designed to penetrate deeply enough on humans in less than ideal shots which requires significantly more than going completely through a dog from that angle. People and animals don't just die because you managed to graze their head hit box like in video games.

It's fun, affordable, in a rifle and with the right bullets it's good for everything smaller than a coyote. Everyone should have at least a .22 even if they don't want to get deep into guns as a pastime. It's cheap enough to justify since a gun and a box of ammo is about the same price as a dinner for 4.

Be more specific. You talking about a lee-enfield? A CMMG AR? If it's the AR what kind of build do you have in mind? A scope like that wouldn't be out of place on a precision AR build assuming the rest of the gun was configured the right way.

.22 LR is possibly the most useful cartridge you can buy.

I have a Savage boltie with a 3x9 scope set up as a squirrel and bunny sniper.
I zap golf balls at 75 yards with it. That will put meat on the grill with very little wastage, and since a head shot is an instakill, the meat isn't full of stress hormones and adrenaline.

I also have an H&R 9 shot revolver for zapping cans and if need be, coup de grace on wounded game.

And a Henry lever because I live shooting lever guns, and frick it is it fun!

I could suppress the Savage and use it for Problem Dogs, but I live in an extremely White fairly wealthy neighborhood so Pit Bulls are rare here...and a vicious Jack Russell Terrier will only merit a drop-kick for neutralization.

Yes. Get a Ruger Charger 22, slap on a ~~*pistol brace*~~ and a binary trigger. Grab two GSG drum magazines and load them with 22lr Stingers. You'll never have more fun shooting and you could potentially use it for self defense but it wouldn't be my first choice.
