If you were designing from scratch and had
>long ranged NLOS dual use ATGM/blast frag missile like Brimstone
>top armour is the thickest armour
>front engined
>missiles in VLS cells
>crew in armoured capsule
>extendable sensor mast
>onboard small quadcopter style drone(s) with fibreoptic connection for jam resistance/EMCON
>APS and RWS with .50cal/GMG for self defence
Is this pretty much the meta for what we've seen in Ukraine and any peer conflict that becomes a stalemate.
Alternatively, have a generic looking command vehicle with ground based drones for sensors and weapons.
POWERFUL RHEINSISTER
>no drone jammer or anti drone AA gun
it's shit
That's an entirely different vehicle.
its kinda all you need, a weapons platform with:
>ATGM capability
>Stinger capability
>A main gun big enough to pierce everything besides an mbt (got the atgm for that)
>A main gun that can take out close air targets
>Good optics for reco and acquisition
>A radar, bonus points if anti battery capability
that kind of platform can by thrown on to anything and be effective.
Ok but wouldn't slapping stingers on everything make them a target for SEAD, or do I lack a basic understanding of how SEAD works
Yes, SEAD is for anti-radar - stingers, like most MANPADS are thermal tracking
The Best SEAD weapons are "Loitering" meaning that the enemy cannot simply turn off the Radar as it will circle waiting for it to turn back on - Meaning that the SAM site won't turn on until after the aircraft has been gone for 10 mins+ allowing many aircraft to slip by
>The Best SEAD weapons are "Loitering"
I would disagree. Although ALARM is effective, the later HARM variants are the next step up where they then search the area the radar last showed up and attack even if it's packed up and moving out.
The point of SEAD is that you can now bomb safely from outside the range of MANPADS
How come we haven't seen decoy radars being used to counter SEAD?
I'm pretty sure there were decoy radars used.
Great idea, but just call it missile carrier.
>long ranged NLOS dual use ATGM/blast frag missile like Brimstone
Also AA missiles, also drones, in flexible configurations.
>top armour is the thickest armour
Reasoning behind that? IMO it should be mostly against artillery.
>extendable sensor mast
Yes. Unless:
>onboard small quadcopter style drone(s) with fibreoptic connection for jam resistance/EMCON
The quadcopter should be supplied with power over wire as well for extended flight times. Potentially have two and ditch the mast.
>APS and RWS with .50cal/GMG for self defence
Yeah, any combat vehicle needs those.
>any peer conflict that becomes a stalemate
Probably any peer conflict IMO.
The interesting question is, should it be wheeled or tracked (wheeled is fine IMO) and what size should it be - bigger is generally better for efficiency, but there's an "all eggs in one basket" kind of consideration.
Pic related: coaxial rotor drone from diehl. Put them in a VLS, tether it, let it fly up or down at will. Assuming the coaxial rotor doesn't harm stability for the onboard sensors... I know russian ka52 has problems with that, but western MIC probably does that kind of thing better.
>Let's kick up some dirt!
>Yes?
>I ride alone.
>I will make my own path.
>Roads? How boring.
>What is it?
>Rocket barrage ready.
>Leave them in the dust.
>Aaaaiiiiieeeeeeeeee!
>I wait for you.
>Alright, let's go.
>I am going.
>Of course.
>Get off my trail!
>Die!
>They will be humiliated!
>It is my duty!
>Attacking!
>Hit them!
>Step on the gas!
>Let's go for it!
>We have more buggy ammo now!
>We have AP rockets now
The fact that you knew all of them just like that is impressive. You are okay, dont come to the black market tomorrow.
Just use a tank tbh. I don't see what benefits a dedicated TD would offer.
No need for armor when you lob drones/atgm form 10km behind frontline
Travels easier, handles terrain better, vastly better range, survivability through mobility, cheaper, less maintenance intensive. Tanks have sucked ass this war because they require line of sight to target.
The big takeaway is honestly that anything that requires direct LoS is probably not the future.
Infantry based ATGM achieves those goals too though.
>Infantry based ATGM
Need to be man portable. A vehicle bound ATGM can be as heavy as it needs to be.
So just have the dudes ride around in an APC.
Future modern warfare is here.
Drones will rule the day.
Doesn't matter if you're in a tank or truck, you'll be drone food.
>missiles in VLS cells
Retarded/10
Removes your ability to hide in hard top cover like bridges
means that in even vaguely wooded areas you cannot fire without leaving the tree line as branches are a thing
means that a small missile for use within line of sight needs to burn upwards and turn through 90 degrees using vital burn time on the motor
VLS work well for boats as they can be several decks deep, designed for BVR and never have to worry about terrain
Missile truck
>Missile truck
Missile truck
>Missile truck
This, my ideal tank destroyer would look like a modernised f111.
>VLS
>Vertical launch system
>Clearly launches horizontally
It's diagonal.
ATV with two Javelin launchers attached in the rear.
