Sup /k/.

I just purchased my first 1911; pic related. Besides getting a variety of magazines like the WC ETCs to see which works the best, what should I know?

I prefer feel over function. Don’t like the way blocks feel when I fire them. I like the way 1911s feel. Now… bear with me here because this ain’t spreadsheet knowledge… but… if I have to pick between two guns, both of which are perfectly capable of doing what I want… why should I not pick the one that feels better when I shoot it.. and even if the other has some advantage the first doesn’t have, the fact that I enjoy firing the first means I’m a whole lot more likely to regularly shoot it… annnd experience with your firearm beats out spreadsheet features….

OP, I have a Specialist too. You might not need the WC mags. For what its worth, the factory mags on mine are Metalforms and they (as well as the spares I bought) have literally been 100% reliable in my gun. Also, with the feed ramp cut that DW uses, my gun has no problem with hollow points--even ones with wide or steep noses.

Either way, good choice of 1911. If your experience is like mine, it'll quickly become one of your favorite guns.

Thanks. That’s is what I’m hoping for. It’s purely a fun/range gun. I already have a Mark 23 suppressed with laser/light that is my favorite pistol. Dead accurate, reliable and so fun and smooth to shoot. I hope it’s up there with that one. Different no doubt. I need a good steel 1911. I have an ‘81 Python that currently fills that gap.

My SDS 1911 is nicer than my Glock ever was. Forged steel frame, slide that’s cerakoted, forged steel barrel that’s chromed plated and lined, it has a mirror-polished feed ramp from the factory. The fitment is tight and it eats every hollow point I’ve ever put through it without fail

Yeah, I've been looking into them more, and I'll likely just pick up one of their standard government models directly from their stateside distributor.
Leaning towards the 9mm for a real soft shooter, but I might grab one of each caliber anyways if the first one I snag lives up to the reputation I've seen online.

own one, this was my first 1911 though.
feels better built than the Colts I held in the store, parts are stiff af, nothing rattles,
the only issue I had was the slide failing to lock back on an empty mag while shooting, but they swapped the slide stop and now its flawless.
also, from what i understood the sight cut on the magnum models are either proprietary or interchangeable with kimbers, but it might've changed since.
its a good bang for your buck.
