The type 26 is literal dogshit aswell. These are ferarri level surface ships made to fight early 2000s combatants. Great if you're sailing around dabbing on Muslims, completely fricking undergunned to compete against a peer and too way way too complex and expensive to shit out enough of them.

Nothing symbolises the decline of British naval power than the type 26/31.

at this point why not mount life-rafts and humanitarian supplies on cruise missiles. it's an expensive way to deliver a tent but they have a shelf life so why waste them?

Couldn't the 40mm do like 80% of what the 57mm can? Surely a better use of that space would be more VLS.

Sea Ceptor launchers are quad-packed, so 48 missiles in those 12x cells
The 8x Mk.41 VLS can also be fitted with 3-pack launchers for Sea Ceptor bringing it up to 72 missiles

      Anonymous

I'm guessing they would have to give up the boat bays to put the Mk.41 in there, don't understand how you could fit twice as many of those in the same space as 12 sea ceptor cells.

        Anonymous

There's plenty of space for all of it if you look from above.

Type 31 is like type 23 and 26, it's using invividial tubes in a "mushroom farm". Not that it matters for type 31 because it's going to spend its whole life on humanitarian and smuggling/piracy operations so that the big boys can be free full time for escort duties and war fighting. If things get really bad it can be upgraded with the mk41 cells and be an extra missile truck.

Yeah as we all know there's so no such thing as ships of the same hull having different configurations for different roles
          >French FREMM has 32 cells on AAW and 16 on ASW

What is it about bong military that makes people seethe so hard?

      Anonymous

Pajeets seethe about them because of empayah
Russians seethe about them because they always have
French seethe about them because they're french
Germans seethe about them because of WW1/2
Assorted browns seethe about them because they're white

And bongs themselves have a lot of pride in their military and military industry so they always rise to bait, so it's always guaranteed (You)s.

Listen I like the bongs and I don't know if OP is a shillbot or not but it's completely fricking legitimate to question the viability of the type 31 especially on a fricking military board.

        >it's completely fricking legitimate to question the viability of the type 31

The entire point of the class is to do low intensity operations. Asking this question exposes OP's ignorance. It's like asking why fisheries protection vessels don't have torpdeos.

Why the frick do you purposely gimp an entire class of WARships? Without battleships and cruisers, they count as major surface combatants. Those things aren't cheap, so why not make them the best you can?

The modern philosophy is to build ships with ability to up the weapon load-out when required, but not maximise it on every vessel out of the drydock. See Denmark and its modular weapon system concept for taking this to the extreme. Military weapons on ships are getting expensive enough that its hard to fully equip a peacetime fleet of a good enough size to keep a proper rota on hulls in service and crews getting proper training in large enough numbers for maintaining skills in the organization as a whole... but if you build the option for upgrading weapons in at construction then you can get the slow, hard part of new hulls sorted and give yourself a decent fleet; then step up weapon outfitting at a later date if a threat arises that needs every vessel to be fully armed.

I think that another thing that people don’t realize certified munitions are not available en mass either. It takes multiple weapons testing periods to certify them so they can be classified as ready for use. With that why would you want to lump all of your certified weapons on a small class of ship? They are there to perform auxiliary roles like screening, ASW, extra anti-missile defense, and an extra ship to take incoming fire so the more important ships take less. Frigates and DDs are though of as expendable when it comes to strike group doctrine while the Shield focused DDs are off on their own watching and waiting for payload intercepts/acquisition.

5,700 tons. That's the size of a WWII Atlanta Class light cruiser, and not that far from the size of an Escort Carrier.

I think the Royal Navy has alot of VLS cells in total if you compare them to other Navies in the region, don't they have more than Germany and France combined or something silly?

Haven't seen a Royal Navy troll thread in a while what gives they used to be up every other day.

It's a cheap way for the bongs to get extra big hulls. Type 26s are like a billion a boat, Type 31s are a quarter of that. The bongs are banking on the idea that they can buy five of these things now, and then add more stuff later.
